Well hello, Upstart Blogger!
I want my first post to give you a little introduction into my crazy world, so I thought I would make a list of the things you should know about me.
1. I’m a list person – obviously. I use lists to organize all of the things in my life that I need to do. Not that I’m actually going to DO them, but I at least end up with a list (that has normally been rewritten two or three times in the neatest penmanship).
2. I work from home. I’m married and have a 10 year old stepson and a 10 month old babygirl. My life is like my family tree. From a distance it is simple and straightforward…that is until you start to name everyone…then it all goes to hell (half step cousin twice removed…). The devil is in the details.
3. I have BS and MS in Forestry, neither of which I use for my current job.
4. I am an approval seeker. I check my blog several times a day (even if I haven’t posted) to see if someone has posted a comment. It’s not that I need to see that someone likes (or dislikes) what I write…it’s knowing that my words are actually hitting someone on the other side.
5. I am politically charged and very opinionated about religion – neither topic will ever appear in one of my posts. If you want to know about my position – come to my house, hand me a beer, and we’ll discuss by the light of a campfire.
Blogs have served different purposes for me over the years.
Around 2006, I started blogging initially as a creative outlet, but I struggled in finding my voice. What was I going to say? I had invited all that I knew – friends and family – and found that such a diverse (and close) audience was difficult to address. I abandoned that effort rather quickly.
I started blogging again when I got pregnant. My family is spread out, and I found that this was a good way to chronicle the crazy events that my pregnancy held. Preggy brain was fodder for many a story. I continued to blog once my babygirl was born. Posting pictures, telling stories. They continue to check that blog each morning – which keeps me posting. I decided to use that blog instead of a baby book. My plan is to get the posts printed into a book for her first birthday. The link to this blog has been kept fairly close to my chest. I use this as the documentation of baby who will grow into an adult who may not appreciate her baby pictures being accessible on Google (or whatever is available in 20 years).
I enjoyed posting, but I had more to say than was appropriate for a baby blog – or my grandparents. I was feeling stifled in my creative process. I started my current blog (www.modernsupermomma.com) early in 2010.
There, I could discuss my trials and tribulations with finding balance in all facets of my life – without these issues coming up during family holiday events. I am not embarrassed about my writing, I just found it easier to focus my voice toward the nebulous internet (or toward imaginary people with shared experiences) rather than thinking about the color of pink my grandma’s cheeks are turning when I write about the little amount of cleaning I do or about how hard and swollen my recently retired milk ducts have become.
My blog has become my creative outlet and my social release. If I can make a buck or two in the process, I’m certainly not going to turn it way.
It took me a few tries to find the appropriate roll of blogs in my world. I finally found my niche, my fit, my flavor of blog, and love it! My blog has been my bridge to other bloggers, kindred spirits, and new friends.
Being accepted as a guest blogger for Upstart Blogger is just the next step in my blogging experience.
Meanwhile, take a look a this new management blog, TheMana.gr. The state of management in business is terrible now a days. With the theories and principles discussed at TheMana.gr you can get the essentials you need to develop as a leader and a manager.
Thank you for the opportunity!
