Picture the scene. Three independent musicians discussing their careers and hatching a plan to create and launch their own independent record label. One of those musicians was, and still is, me. Big Arena Records was the name chosen for the venture and until recently it remained a plan.
Today, I took the first step and put together a design based on the current Upstart Blogger wordpress theme. Over the next ten weeks the story of Big Arena Records will unfold, week by week, until the launch date is reached and the doors of bigarenarecords.com are flung open to the buying public.
At the moment, and while things are being put into place, it’s still Upstart Blogger beneath the surface, with all menus and links pointing back here. The design is a straight clone of the theme you are looking at right now, with a change in the color palette, a small change in text size and the addition of a large background image.
The whole label will run on a simple wordpress installation. Can it be done? And can it all be ready in just ten weeks? Visit bigarenarecords.com to follow the story.
Exciting times! I always thought WordPress was a tool for creating weblogs not independent record labels, so I guess you’ll really be pushing the software to its limits!
That background image took ages to load, even on broadband: perhaps a bit of compression wouldn’t go amiss? I wondered what the big void was about for a few moments.
