Upstart Blogger privately managed Wordpress theme Liberator
Since Liberator is a one time event, an event that will undoubtedly change the blogging lives of seven bloggers, it made sense to create a Wordpress theme that had the gravity and muscle that such a project demands. Clean typography, modern palettes and a customizable mix of blogging and magazine layouts all play their individual part resulting in a minimalist Wordpress theme that will, when given appropriate amounts of traffic and sensible monetization,... What is a privately managed Wordpress theme and how can it make you money?
On Friday I announced my latest project, Liberator, an initiative designed to give seven bloggers an opportunity to get a permanent sidebar link here at Upstart Blogger to ensure a healthy supply of traffic and, in a move that guarantees a blogging income, use of an exclusive privately managed Wordpress theme. Many readers were a little puzzled, however, and emailed the question, what is a privately managed Wordpress theme and how will it make me... Read More
Upstart Blogger Wordpress theme voluptua
As promised on Friday, Voluptua, an imposing minimalist Wordpress theme, is now available for download. Voluptua features large swiss typography with all text being set in Helvetica Neue, degrading via Helvetica and Arial to a standard sans serif typeface on systems that are typographically challenged. Voluptua can currently be seen running unmodified at Musicians Who Blog and, with a few palette tweaks, at Brass Revolver, where, as you can see from... Read More
Another golden opportunity and a glimpse at a new Upstart Blogger Wordpress theme
Musicians who blog is one of those ideas that has sat comfortably in my collection box for years as more pressing projects have pushed it to the back of the queue. Put simply, Musicians who blog is a blog about, you’ve guessed it, musicians who blog. Still technically in beta, while content is added and various tweaks are made, this new project is fully functioning and ready to receive visitors who, I hope, will cast a critical eye over the... Reopening a Premium Wordpress theme can of worms
A few months ago I wrote a post entitled When Premium Wordpress themes and open source ethics collide. It received a lot of interest and sparked a healthy debate that still, occasionally, rears its head. The main thrust of my argument was that it was ethically wrong to actively prevent the further development of any theme that is based on open source code. And since all Wordpress themes, it could be argued, are rooted in open source code, no Wordpress... Read More
Upstart Blogger Enormous Wordpress theme
As promised on Friday here is the final release version of the Upstart Blogger Enormous Wordpress theme. If you are looking for a high impact Wordpress theme with big typography and minimalist styling, a Wordpress theme that gets the job done if you want to really get your message across, then this could be the one for you. Styled using classic swiss style typography throughout, Enormous is a Wordpress theme with a free gift of three free tracks... Read More
Piggy back Wordpress marketing
In the ever growing online world, as we move closer and closer to a time where internet access is available to everyone worldwide, creative marketing opportunities become more and more powerful. Sometimes, however, the most powerful marketing solutions are those that combine existing but otherwise uncomplimentary methods. Producing a Wordpress theme and distributing it for free is a proven way of getting inbound links and traffic. That traffic can... Read More

Upstart Blogger Modio Updated to 0.4
I’ve released an update to Upstart Blogger Modio. This release fixes a problem in the archive.php file. When you display a tag archive in WordPress 2.3, it will now display the archive list with proper formatting. If you’ve already modified an earlier version, just replace your old archive.php with the new template file. Read More →
Upstart Blogger Modicus Now WordPress 2.3 Compatible
I’ve updated Upstart Blogger Modicus to version 0.3. Both the standard 3-column version and the 2-column version are now WordPress 2.3-ready. I’ve added tags to individual posts and a tag cloud to the sidebar. If you are upgrading from Modicus 0.2, you may not need this update. There are no changes to the style.css files in 0.3, so if you haven’t altered the template files you can just keep your old style sheet and copy over your... Read More
