Clone your blog and rocket your traffic

Mar 25  08

Blogs that have focussed content attract the most traffic. The search engines love them and loyal readers come back for more, again and again.

This presents a problem for the successful blogger if they want to add content to their blog that could be considered off topic by their subscribers. Adding content to a blog would usually result in an increase in traffic but taking a focussed blog off topic can potentially cause the traffic to drop.

So, if you have a successful blog and want to widen the scope of your writing, what’s the solution?

Take the design from your existing blog and clone it onto new blogs in new niches that suit the content you want to share. Your new blogs can be announced on your existing, successful, blog to give them a kick start in terms of traffic and authority in the eyes of google. Linking your blogs together, in a network style, boosts your google juice even more.

Cloning a blog works best when you have related but distinct niches and a design that is easily associated with you as a brand. Furthermore, if your blog design is text based, with minimal or no graphics, then cloning it for a new blog is easy since no new graphics need to be created.

It’s a win win situation. You get to spread your blogging wings and generate more traffic at the same time.

What a coincidence, i just did that :) None the less, interesting read :)

Mixing funny videos and line rider flash games with topics about graphic design and wordpress or typography is just too confusing. Either the visitor came for one thing, or for the other. It’s hard to appreciate some template tag eplained when you are e.g. just looking for new pictures of someone.

Still have to copy the new theme for the old site though, as i have made a new one for the “clone” :)
