Congratulations to the Sandbox Designs Competition Winners!

SandPress WordPress Theme

The winners of the Sandbox Designs Competition have been announced. First Place kudos go to Arpit Jacob for SandPress, a polished theme with a winning name. Moo-Point, by venerable web designer Will Wilkins of IAMWW (who also created a mod of Upstart Blogger Minim, IAMWW w2), snagged Second Place. Rounding out the winners was Sunaryo
Hadi’s
Third Place entry, Prima.

My own entry, Upstart Blogger Takimata, managed to show up near the bottom of the list of entries that received points from the judges. But I really have no quarrel with the judging. The winners and runners-up are all clean, usable designs and were pretty consistent with my own favorites, although not exactly in the same order.

All of the themes are now up on the Sandbox site, available for live preview and downloading. You can also download Sandbox Designs torrent and grab all of the themes and Sandbox in one file.

Congratulations to all of the winners and participants! I’m glad to have participated. It has stimulated my thoughts about design and I’m looking forward to creating some new themes based on Sandbox.

RobertRobert Ellis was the founder of Upstart Blogger. He now blogs (and continues to design themes) at Futurosity.

Thanks for this write-up, Robert. Let me first say I’m very glad you participated and personally think that Takimata is one of the more challenging, thought-provoking designs I’ve seen.

We’ll definitely need to do this again in the future. :)

Thanks for the compliment Robert. I am really surprised Takimata didn’t score better. I had a feeling SandPress would do extremely well.

  3. @Scott: You’re welcome! I’m looking forward to working with Sandbox, and to next year.

@Will: You’re welcome, too! I’m not surprised Takimata didn’t score better. I never expected to win. I just wanted to learn about Sandbox, try out some new ideas, and offer a little design provocation. But Moo-Point’s win is well deserved. Congratulations again!

Your entry was very unique! In my books, you won the “being bold with design” award.

  5. @hso: Thanks very much for your comment. I’ll take the “being bold with design” award over first place any day!
