Creating the perfect blogging workspace
This week I have taken delivery of two very interesting packages. One package contained some promotional items, a unique take on traditional paper notebooks and index cards which I will review in due course, and the other contained my new HAG Capisco chair that I mentioned a few weeks ago.
It’s no exaggeration to say that the chair has changed the way I work. I am now able to sit at my desk for longer periods of time without back pain dominating my every move. The HAG dealer tells me that to get the full benefit from the chair I should consider raising the level of my desk, along with the height of the chair, to what he calls a sit-stand position. Luckily for me I have a glass desk that is height adjustable so I am able to make the changes easily, if only to give them a try. Frankly, the idea of a sit-stand working position doesn’t appeal to me. But I’m not the expert in Norwegian ergonomic back posture chairs and the dealer is.
The immediate decrease in my back pain has left me very impressed with the product and impressed with the dealers knowledge. More than that, it has persuaded me to consider revamping my workspace entirely, starting with a clean and empty room, and attempt to create the perfect blogging workspace.
Putting the aforementioned index cards and some recently acquired Noodlers ink to good use I wrote down the following question,
What makes the perfect blogging Workspace?
Next, I started to list the things that I wanted, a blogging workspace wish list, and soon realized that creating the perfect workspace is more about where than what. I already own the necessary equipment, I already have decor that I am happy with, I just need to arrange things to allow the equipment and the room to work together as harmoniously as possible.
And that’s where the fun begins, moving everything around in an attempt to make my workspace as good as it can be.
As you can probably imagine, right now my blogging workspace is anything but perfect, stuck as it is in the middle of a reasonably uncoordinated whirlwind of part dismantled furniture and piles of stuff. The stuff that every workspace attracts naturally if left unchecked for too long. But I do have a plan, not only for the workspace revamp but also for a blogging opportunity.
People love to look at photographs of other people’s workspaces. But instead of repeatedly clicking through Flickr I thought it would be infinitely more interesting to see your blogging workspace, creating a showcase of real, active blogging environments. A place where Upstart Blogger readers can give the world a look at the workspaces they have created in return for a healthy dose of traffic.
Here’s how it works. Leave a comment below to let me know you are going to take part and then send me a photograph of your workspace to ashley@ashleymorgan.com. Once I have received enough photographs to warrant a showcase I’ll feature them all in a separate blog post, along with links back to your blog or blogs.
Everyone who reads Upstart Blogger gets to look at your blogging workspace and you get traffic and a PR7 link. There’s no time limit but photographs, and links, will be added to the new post on a first come first served basis.
If the showcase is popular then it could, potentially, attract a large amount of traffic. And all of that traffic could be pointed at your blog if your workspace is featured.
Grab your camera and get snapping.
Hey Morgan is good to listen about your new chair I think eventually I will get a better desk as mine can not change the height and sometimes my back is killing me, or maybe is the Japanese work style :p I’m just sending you my pictures how is my blogging workspace in Japan as a foreigner.
I’m in!
my work space actually sucks, but, i’ll throw in a picture… ugh. renting a condo after just moving and space is limited…
I’m in. I really want to go for one of those chairs. I like the option to raise my desk to standing height as well. I am curious what your setup looks like while you’re sitting/standing…
Count me in!
I’m actually setting up my home office this weekend. I’ve got the paint and furniture ready to go and will be sure to take lots of photographs.

Aargh – RSI is the bain of my life and I’m constantly making changes to my desk, chair and position to try and get rid of the pain (mainly shoulder in my case). My current setup is right-hand ergonomic desk (kind of L-shaped), so the whole of the mousing arm rests on the desk all the time. I have arm rests on the chair adjusted to the highest position possible without touching the underside of the desk – these come into play whilst typing. It’s not perfect and my right shoulder screams most of the time, but it’s the best i’ve found so far. I’ll definitely send a pic.
