CSS Reboot Fall 2005

Sep 21  05

If you appreciate fresh web design, have a look at CSS Reboot. In this biannual event, Rebooters from around the world simultaneously relaunch their sites with fresh designs. The first CSS Reboot in May of this year attracted more than 400 sites. The Fall Reboot has already attracted 581 Rebooters (that’s me, #581), people who are committed to relaunching their web standards-based redesigns on November 1st, 2005 at 12:00 GMT. If you have a blog or web site, head over to CSS Reboot and sign up now.

Why? What’s lacking in your current design? Your content is legible, worth reading, organized, beautiful. Why don’t you fix faults only noticed by yourself just tomorrow?

What urges people to follow a blogosphere meme? Individuals, who registered a domain name and set up a website to have a place they call their own (web-wise) simply add their efforts to a rush of lemmings redesigning with concordance to an other person’s timeline. Is this marketing? Pride? Sports? Peer pressure?

    Curious…

Thanks for the complements on my site. As for why I’m redesigning, I do tweak here and there as I notice things, but I’ve been redesigning Futurosity every three to six months since I began using it for a blog (instead of just a static business brochure, which is what you would have seen here for several years). I redesign for two reasons: 1) I like learning about web design, and 2) it’s fun. CSSReboot seems like a fun idea; it gives me a deadline, it has exposed me to some sites I wouldn’t have found otherwise, and it has already brought some traffic to my site.

So, not pride, not sports (I can’t compete with the real designers out there), not pressure. Fun. Have a look. You might find some new sites you’d like.

I had to bail out of CSS Reboot. I was so busy with some consulting work, writing for Macworld and worrying about my novel for NaNoWriMo that I haven’t had any time to work on the site. Next year.
