Designing ten blogs in five days

I have my work cut out for me this week designing ten new blogs. Yes, ten new blogs. My music and personal domains have been under developed for too long and it’s time to get them up and running. And, if that’s not enough work, I have taken on the responsibility of designing personal blogs for a handful of colleagues and friends.

It’s going to be a busy week, an extremely busy week, but if all goes to plan the combined traffic could be quite formidable, and maybe, just maybe, form the foundation for the blog network that has been on and off the Upstart Blogger drawing board for almost a year now.

All of this work will take place behind the scenes while I attempt to maintain my usual blogging schedule.

Before I fire up Photoshop and get an early Sunday evening start to the week, I have a couple of quick news announcements to get out of the way. Firstly, the blogger interviews are still being arranged. If you are on the list you will be contacted very soon. Secondly, Google made some Page Rank updates over the weekend and Upstart Blogger is still displaying a big fat seven. I had hoped for an eight but the gap between seven and eight is, according to a few searches, a pretty big one. Thirdly, a continued thank you to everyone who is helping me with the new Upstart Blogger design, the official thank you post, complete with gratuity links, will be posted once all the tiny errors have been polished away.

Ok, it’s time to get cracking. But first I’m going to have a quick search for a couple of identity fonts. In particular I’m looking for a serif that has bags of character whilst retaining an air of professionalism. If there are any typophiles out there, closet or otherwise, please add your opinions in a comment below.

Ashley Morgan is a UK jazz trumpet player and owner of independent record label 447 Records. Ashley Morgan is the trumpet player with Enormous.

  1. Two great serifs with a ton of character and that I find very professional are Filosofia and Mrs. Eaves.

    Good luck with the designs!

That’s certainly one ambitious plan. But such a thing seems like a good way to kick procrastination in the backside. Good luck. I look forward to seeing the results.

Why would you make a unique blog design for your co-workers? Most of them will probably give up anyway. I think it’s best to start bare bones, and those that stick to it can then invest into the site themselves.

    Ashley,

Good luck man! If anyone can do 10 blogs in 5 days it’s you.

  5. Good luck Ashley! 10 blogs in 5 days is one hell of a task – an inspiration to the rest of us to put some hard work in!

  6. Josef – I’m a big fan of Emigre type. I’ll take a look at, thanks.

    Josh – Thanks.

Wesley – I don’t have any co-workers. I’m 100% freelance in everything I do from my music career to my blogging career. That’s why I said ‘colleagues and friends’. Building blogs for other musicians who I work with benefits me as well as them. If they succeed I succeed by association. Plus, it’s nice to be able to help people to start blogging.

Elijah – You’re too kind! Let’s just hope I can get them all finished on time.

    Underdog Blogger – Thanks.
