Dive deep for diamonds and avoid Paris Hilton for easy blog traffic
Deep niche blogging is a highly effective way of generating new blog traffic, digging deep into you chosen topic to write a highly focussed blog post whilst at the same time becoming an authority in the eyes of the search engines. Like most things, it’s best explained by an example.
Let’s consider a Hi-Fi blog that consists of news and reviews along with a sprinkling of personal narrative. To dive deep into your niche imagine something so rare and specific that it makes you the authority on that thing, whatever it may be, even if only for a short time until someone else writes about it. Then refine it further until you get to a highly focussed point.
Your blog post then becomes a diamond. A rarity, highly valued by the search engines.
For example, pick something not currently popular in Hi-Fi blogs – Mini Disc.
Refine the topic – Mini Disc blanks.
Refine it again – Mini Disk blanks made by TDK.
And again – Mini Disk blanks made by TDK that are only for sale in Japan.
Continue until you can’t go any further without moving off topic completely.
Our example Hi-Fi blogger could chose to write about 80 Minute Orange ‘Ho’ Mini Disk blanks made by TDK that are only for sale in Japan. Although the amount of surfers searching for that specific information would be low our example blogger would rank highly in a search engine for all relevant searches simply because the competition would also be relatively low.
It is the antithesis of the Paris Hilton effect, the grabbing of search engine traffic from a massive pool of junk searches by simply writing about an extremely popular search topic. The trouble with the Paris Hilton effect is that unless your blog can incorporate the popular search topic and still keep your regular readers happy it will do more harm than good. Also, such off topic traffic is useless since it will just consist of hit and run surfers. They’ll hit your blog from the search engines and then run when they realize the Paris Hilton nonsense they were looking for is, unsurprisingly, not what your blog is about. On the other hand, writing about a deep niche topic will almost certainly interest your existing readers since it will be, by its very definition, on topic.
Try it. Drill down into your niche and see what diamond topics you can find. Write a deep niche blog post every month and I guarantee your traffic will rise.

Very good post, what can also help is to look at keyword research tools to find more long tail keywords that you can incorporate or talk about in your blog post.
Excellent write up, very interesting read!
