A couple of days ago I started to receive some odd comments. All of them were written in the same style, by apparently different people none of whom left a web address. They all had one thing in common. Every one was praising Dreamhost, saying what a wonderful host they were and how they, unlike me, had received nothing but fantastic service, 100% uptime and wonderful customer support.
Yesterday six of these bizarre comments were left, similar style, all pro dreamhost, all with no web address, and all with disposable email addresses like gmail, yahoo mail and so on. Since these comments are all written politely they appear genuine to comment spam filters and fly straight through. another reason why it’s a good idea to verify all comments manually.
And, all of them had the same IP address.
Being suspicious of this sort of thing, and given Upstart Blogger’s detailed and rocky history with Dreamhost, I checked the IP address the emails I have in my numerous communications with them.
I’m sure you can guess the rest.
Dreamhost have been attempting to comment spam this blog with positive comments about their hopeless hosting service.
If you have a blog that mentions Dreamhost check your comments. If the same IP address shows up then you now know where they are coming from.
Needless to say, if you are hosting with Dreamhost, or if you just need a trustworthy and professional host, check out AN Hosting. If you make the switch use promotional code UPSTARTBLOGGER and get 3 months for free.

Stumbled and Twittered…this is the wrong way to handle a customer satisfaction issue.
Wow. I have a site hosted with Dreamhost, and while I’ve had downtime issues here & there, they’ve otherwise been great, but this really makes me think twice. Thanks for mentioning this.
Well i never had a problem with Dreamh- just kidding, man that’s low, IP ban in order?
That is so bad, and kind of sad too. You know what I think of dreamhost don’t you? Bleurggghhhh.
when i was looking for a host, everyone warned me off dreamhost. everyone. had a single person out of the 10 or so people I ask said anything positive, I might have considered DH.
I’ve been with Dreamhost for 3 years and I’ve never had an issue. Although all the stories I hear kind of freak me out a bit.
transferring all 40 some domains i’m running off of my account would be a giant pain in the ass and doesn’t really seem warranted considering I’ve never personally had an issue with them.
suggestions?
I had read many bad reviews of Dreamhost in the past when I was first looking for a web host. I completely disregarded those reviews because the price was cheap and the space and bandwidth were huge. Needless to say, I eventually changed hosts. I was lucky not to have the complete loss of my data as Ashley did, but I had my own good reasons for switching. I can’t believe that they’ve nothing better to do than to comment spam to restore their reputation. I think the time might be better spent making a better service.
I am hosted on DreamHost at the moment (that’s why I’m anon here) and I must say I’ve been really frustrated lately with all the downtime. My main domain stays up most of the time but all my sub domains are more down than up! That’s no good. It’s my first time hosting my own site. It’s really unfortunate that they work this way. I’m really disappointed that people write such great reviews about a host and then I get service like this. Probably just because they get those referrals…
They are @ it again
