At approximately 1.00 am this morning Upstart Blogger HQ was hit by an earthquake which according the the news this morning measured 5.2 on the Richter scale.
Earthquakes of that size are so rare that my first thought was that we had a poltergeist zooming around the house. Either that or some sort of skydiving cat burglar since the noise was all on the top floor of the house. It’s amazing what can go through the mind when it is suddenly woken from sleep.
I am happy to report that we are all fine and that, as far as I can see at the moment, there is no property damage. The quake was, however, strong enough to cause one of my backup external hard drives to vibrate it’s way off my glass desk and onto the floor, yanking out it’s power cable on the way.
All the data, all 500gb of it, has been lost since the drive is not mounting correctly when attached back to it’s cable. Thankfully it was only a backup so the original 500gb of data is intact, for the moment at least. Being pretty ruthless about my backup regime a replacement drive is already on it’s way. Hopefully my house insurance will cover the cost.
If anyone else was affected by the quake then I sincerely hope you and yours are all safe and well and that no damage has been done.

Glad to know you all are safe.
You’re having quite the spell of bad luck. But it comes in threes as the saying goes, so hopefully this will be the last of it for awhile!
