As promised on Saturday here is a sneak preview of the Upstart Blogger realign. I had originally intended to make more changes but couldn’t bring myself to take away the best parts of what was a design that I already felt happy with. For instance, the structure of the blog post dates is something that I would miss if I removed it. Likewise the general feel and pace of the design.
The changes are subtle. The underscores are gone. Slimming down the heading text from a bold to a normal weight has, I feel, given the site a more contemporary feel. Body text has increased in size to differentiate it from the sidebar content. Underlining the links in a contrasting color is something that might raise an eyebrow but I wanted a way to highlight them without resorting to changing the shade of the text, nor underlining them in the standard style. The effect is only really effective when viewed at full size. You’ll see what I mean when I activate the new design.
The design is done and only the grunt work is left, copying the code into the wordpress theme and making sure all the different theme components work in harmony. If everything goes to plan the new design pictured here should be online by this time tomorrow.
I sincerely hope the realign meets with your approval since there’s no turning back now!

My goodness me, that looks rather promising. I’m quite sure that the finished product will be mighty attractive :)
Are the titles below the actual post? Is so, I admit a little confusion at first glance on my end because I couldn’t decide which post the title was for.
I don’t know if that’s a part of the realign or an oversight. It’s a good looking design. If you don’t mind me asking, what is the contrasting color for the underlined links?
Joshua - Thanks.
Amber - The titles are below the post excerpts just like the current design. The titles for individual post pages will be above the content, where the words “Upstart Blogger” appear in the screen grab. The color for the link underline is a pale yellow. The same yellow as used in the highlighted section at the top of the page.
Looks rather nice i must say. To be honest, i am very glad you got rid of the “dope” underscores.
Keep it up, Ashley :)
i weep for the underscores. it made this place feel all ‘matrix’.
Nicely tweaked. The underscores will not be missed :-) I personally love subtle changes. Looking forward to looking at a larger view!
