I can’t remember how I landed on Before & After magazine’s site, but it took me about 15 minutes after downloading a few free sample articles to open my wallet and subscribe.
Before & After is one of the best resources I’ve found for non-designers. The information is practical and parred to the bone. No fluff here. Explanations are thorough and clear. Each PDF file includes two versions of the article: a landscape version for viewing onscreen and a paper-saving portrait layout of the same information for printing. The graphic design of the articles is clean, uncluttered.
I found three free articles available for download, covering type selection, color selection, and tips for designing small calendars. The color article covers the color palette tip I wrote about elsewhere, but also adds a good introduction to finding palettes on the color wheel.
Subscriptions are $36 for 6 print issues (which also gives you access to the PDF versions), or $18 for 6 PDF issues.
