_Good News From AN Hosting!

_Entry

One of my favorite hosts has experienced its share of hiccups lately, but things are looking up. Seems the rumors are true, and AN Hosting will be moving to a new data center.

This was published in the latest midPhase Newsletter (AN Hosting is owned by midPhase, but offers much better hosting packages than midPhase):

Unless you’ve been hosting under a rock or vacationing in Tahiti you’re undoubtedly aware we’ve had a rocky month of power outages and other data center woes. I know a few months back we talked about why we chose the new RCN data center facility and one of those reasons being power, power and more power. We had every reason to believe our woes were behind us and it wasn’t until power usage for the area as a whole increased with summer did RCN’s shortcomings become apparent. What was normally reliable uptime plunged as we endured repeated outages due to bad infrastructure and planned responses. From midPhase’s side we feel we did everything right. Our cabinets were never overcrowded, our servers as power efficient as we could make them. Short of buying our own data center we were doing everything possible to ensure you, our beloved customers, had your service up to snuff. This wasn’t so, however, so we apologize. Our current plan is to move every dual processor server from the RCN facility to our new, as of now unannounced data center. The RCN data center will house only low-end servers that won’t draw power enough to cause any problems. We hope with these precautions there won’t be any more service outages caused by data center power issues. We want to thank each and every one of you for your patience and understanding, please know that we’ve been a zillion times angrier and fed-up than anyone.

I’m encouraged by this. I’ve had great experiences with AN Hosting. They offer generous hosting packages and their support has been awesome. I think they’ve responded to their recent problems with integrity. They credited my account for last month without any problems and they’ve always been responsive. DreamHost can keep their stinkin’ teddy bear! AN Hosting actually tries to do something about a problem. This was also in their latest newsletter:

June is the first month into our fifth year of existence! We’ve had our ups and downs this past year, to be certain. One thing that sets us apart from a lot of other hosts out there is our transparency and readiness to accept responsibility for our shortcomings. Working with technology as we do we realize we’re hardly infallible. Accidents, oversights and just plain ol’ human error can contribute to all sorts of nasty things happening but a lesser host would gloss over those happenings and with a wave of the hand tell you that it never happened…

Maintaining open lines of communication with our customer base is the only way we’ll keep going strong into sixth, seventh, eighth years and beyond! Thank you one and all for your continued business, we’re growing like crazy and learning so much in the process. midPhase wants to be your host for life so stay tuned as the best is yet to come!

I still host a few sites at AN Hosting and I’m glad I do. Though Upstart Blogger is now hosted at (update, Upstart Blogger is now hosted with AN Hosting) Media Temple AN Hosting, I’m not convinced MT is worth the price (so not convinced that it I now host all my sites at AN Hosting). Most bloggers will be better off with AN Hosting. If you’re looking for a host, use coupon code UPSTART BLOGGER and get three free months.
