Google Wave invitations
Google Wave is here. Yesterday Google sent out 100,000 Google Wave invitations to developers, a selection of interested parties who requested an invitation some time ago and, luckily for me, a number of people who use Google Apps.
I use Google Apps. My wife uses Google Apps. Members of my extended family use Google Apps. And we all got Google Wave invitations.
Each Google Wave invitation gives it’s owner the ability to send out a number of subsequent Google Wave invitations to friends and colleagues. The amount of subsequent Google Wave invitations available to each user isn’t fixed. It appears that those people who use the service and distribute invitations get given more invitations to replace the ones they have given out.
I’m not sure whether this means I have a bottomless pit of Google Wave invitations but I can say for sure that my invitations are replenishing over time. And, given that this is exactly what happened when I got my first Gmail invitation, I’m not surprised that Google are using the same invitation distribution technique.
Even after playing with Google Wave for just 12 hours it’s apparent that this could, if used intelligently, represent a seismic shift in the way people connect and interact online.
If you want a Google Wave invitation this might be your lucky day. I’ve decided to distribute my pool of invitations freely to subscribers to my loop email newsletter at random.
Starting in 24 hours time I will send out all of my Google Wave invitations to loop subscribers.
And then, after another 24 hours, when my pool of Google Wave invitations have been replenished, I will send those new Google Wave invitations out to a new random batch of loop subscribers. I will continue distributing invitations at 24 hour intervals for as long as I have them.
To get a shot at a free Google Wave invitation simply send an email to loop@ashleymorgan.com.
