A different kind of unsolicited email hit my desktop this morning, a handful of cash offers for Upstart Blogger. Now, before I go any further let me state that Upstart Blogger is absolutely, categorically, not for sale. Of course, it was for sale, a little under a year ago, and I bought it, but that doesn’t explain the sudden rush of misplaced and unwanted offers.
So what caused a handful of eager blog investors to contact me on an otherwise normal Tuesday? As always, Google Analytics have the answer.
Remember the blog spammer who scraped Upstart Blogger and regurgitated my content a while ago? It’s happening again, but this time the spam blog has decided to show it’s visitors Upstart Blogger content from the end of last year when the sale of this blog was being advertised and negotiated.
Just like before, my traffic has spiked and revenue for the day is up. Clearly, I’m happy about that. But I’m not happy about the fact that a a reasonable number of people, albeit people who frequent the kind of spam blogs that do this sort of thing, are under the impression that Upstart Blogger is up for sale.
The offers made me smile, however, the highest of which was $70,000.
It sounds like a lot of money but in reality it’s a drop in the ocean when you consider the amount of money that Upstart Blogger makes per month combined with the slow but steady rise in traffic and revenue that has taken place over the course of 2008 so far. If the rise continues 2009 is well placed to be a great year financially.
Blogging and flipping for a profit is great if you want to make a quick and easy profit. But blogging for long term income is much more rewarding, both financially and personally. So, if you see a blog claiming that Upstart Blogger is for sale please either let me know so I can put them straight, or feel free to leave a comment on the offending blog pointing them to this article. If nothing else, it will show the readers of the spam blogs that they are reading regurgitated, and therefore out of context, content.
Whatever the price, this blog is not for sale.

Good for you. Sure $70 grand seems like a lot, but in actuality it’s not. You put work into this and have helped it grow like a tree that is now starting to bare it’s fruit – why would you go and give it away for a handful of money if you haven’t even had a chance to bake a pie yet?
Got it? Good. :)
