Searching for the perfect Linux laptop for musicians

I’ll keep this short and sweet. One of my laptops, a Sony Vaio that had been a Linux test bed for several years has finally given up. Possibly because it has, over the years, been trodden on, dropped, and generally smashed around in a way that I would never dream of treating my Apple gear.

Perhaps it’s because my Sony laptop started life as a Windows machine that kicked and screamed when I forced it to run Ubuntu that I don’t have fond memories of it.

I’ll be blunt. I never liked it. It always felt like it was locked. It never really felt comfortable running Ubuntu.

Long time readers know that Samsung gave me a free NC-10 netbook a while ago and that it happily runs Ubuntu and is a great travelling machine.

But sometimes a bigger screen comes in handy.

I guess what I’m saying, again being blunt, is that I would like a new laptop. Preferably a laptop that will run Ubuntu Studio and work nicely as an audio work station.

The perfect Linux laptop for musicians. That’s what I’m looking for.

And, since I know that those people responsible for marketing laptops have been happy in the past to furnish me with free machines, I thought it would be a good idea to just come straight out and ask for a nice laptop.

So, laptop marketing people, your looking at a free lunch.
