It’s that time again. Time to reveal the figures and show how much traffic and money was generated by this blog in October 2008.
Unique visitors are up, but very slightly, to 51,212. Likewise, my page views crept up a little to 101,094. And, unsurprisingly, my income was only up a small amount at $4,516. This is almost $500 short of my target for October.
Alexa, Technorati and all the other ranking services continue to bounce me around like a rubber ball in a tumble drier. I’m hoping they will settle down soon. Although, if they don’t, I’ll just stop paying any attention to them. As one reader commented last month, it’s the money that matters, not the third party rankings. Google is the only external ranking that remains constant, my page rank staying at level 7.
October wasn’t as good as I had thought it would be. But at least I know why. The design that I was so proud of, all big text and lovely serif fonts, wasn’t well received by the general public nor did it do anything for my traffic. I tend to be my harshest critic and I openly admit that the October redesign was a mistake. It looked pretty, to me anyway, but it was a mistake.
But it’s not all bad news. Far from it.
November is already shaping up to be a huge improvement. So much so that I’m confident of breaking the $7,000 per month barrier and pushing my traffic to new heights. My stats have reacted very well to the latest design with page views being especially healthy.
Why am I so confident?
Traffic for November so far, from November 1 to November 11, is at 32,452 unique visitors, 78,285 page views. Income for the last eleven days stands at $2,830.
And that’s a very good position to be in just eleven days into a month.
Continued thanks to everyone who reads Upstart Blogger. As I say every time I share my stats, none of this is possible without you.

Hey! I was just wondering how do you make this money? Only with the AN-Hosting ads?
Anyways, great site.
Hey!
I really like the design! Granted I didn’t see the old one as I’m new to UB but I like that it’s typographically driven. It’s memoriable to me.
Well done on achieving your targets! How DO you make this money? (quoting Julian) I’d like to know as I’m aspiring!
I enjoy visiting and reading your blog and like your new an old designs. Like Julian and Dale, I’m interested in how you generate this level of revenue. Hopefully, at some point you’ll break it down and share that with us. Thanks.
Hi Ashley,
I’ve been a follower of your site from some time now, found it while searching for wordpress themes! love your themes and tips and tricks.
I saw that you were offering a free blogging course, redeemable after purchase of an ANhosting space. I was wondering… how do you track this? I’m not confident of affiliate programs because you lose out on sales if cookies get deleted, a different computer is used later, etc.
Also, any tips on how you organize your blogging course? Do you check purchases and create mailing lists manually or do you have a software/script that can do this? Thanks for anything you might be able to share!!!!
