Upstart Blogger Moleskine Wordpress theme

moleskinetheme500.jpg

Today I am very happy to release Moleskine, a new Upstart Blogger Wordpress theme. As the name suggests, Moleskine is a minimalist Wordpress theme which aims to simulate the feel of simple black ink on creamy off white paper.

Features include a 960 pixel grid base for rock solid alignment and a very subtle background gradient to keep the Web 2.0 crowd happy whilst hopefully providing a pleasing and restful reading environment, just like the a real Moleskine.

If you are are looking for a Wordpress theme to use as an online alternative to your Moleskine journal then this could be exactly what you are looking for.

Click here to download it or here to see a live preview.

Included in the download are a handful of Wordpress plugins that enable extra functionality in the theme, such as related posts and recent comments.

Moleskine has been tested under the latest available version of Wordpress, currently 2.6, and functions correctly in all major browsers, even the usually belligerent IE6.

If you use the theme on your blog please leave a comment below. You’ll get some nice traffic and any potentiall downloaders will be able to see the theme in action.

    Now this I like :)

Except for the fact that there isn’t really a clearly defined header (upper right corner).

I also wonder how it’s going to look with some long post titles. 3 rows for the title, I don’t think that will look good.

Oh and in your live preview, there seems to be a problem with the tag cloud (text size).

Nicely done. It does look very journal-like.

    That’s a nice theme.

It’s a shame it causes horizontal scrolling on 1024-pixel–wide screens, though. It’s just a tiny bit too wide. Also, have you considered using functions.php so that it’s not necessary to install plugins as well?

    Thanks for the fast feedback.

The 1024 issue is fixed now. I had added some width to the main container to hack it into place for Internet Explorer. I’ve removed the extra width and it should fit nicely on a 1024 screen now. And, remarkably, it still works on Internet Explorer.

The tag cloud looks weird and oversized on Firefox/mac. Otherwise a very nice theme.

    Thanks,

    Awesomeness.

1 Comment: I kind of wish the overall font-size was just a little bit smaller. After hitting COMMAND - a few times it looks just right.

1 Praise: The slight gradient background that you get when you scroll down the page is GENIUS. Subtle yet effective and it really helps to bring out the feel of a Moleskine notebook.

I really like this theme. However I’d echo the comments above about font size and the tag cloud (Also on firefox/osx).

Also, is there anyway to easily add the post author to the theme? I’d like to use something like for a multi-author blog am working on.

Really nice theme. A little bit of tweaking to get it to match my portfolio design but it looks spot on now.

    Thanks!

This theme looks like a newspaper, do you think it could pass for magazine blog?
