Bloggers can be split into two divisions. Those who blog every day and those who blog only on weekdays.
With traffic traditionally dropping all across the internet from Friday night to Monday morning it might seem futile to put fingers to keyboard during the traffic dry spell. But, that doesn’t necessarily mean that weekend blogging is a waste of time. Your audience may be smaller on Saturday and Sunday but they are no less important. And, for those subscribers who don’t log in at weekends there will be an extra couple of posts waiting for them when they fire up their browsers, RSS readers, iPhones, or whatever their preferred device is.
Also consider this. The internet is a big pond and all of the bloggers are fish. Some are big fish, some are little fish, and some are really tiny little minnows. A lot of the big fish don’t blog at the weekend which makes it a lot easier for the smaller fish to get the attention of whatever aquatic life metaphorically represents potential subscribers.
Blog at weekends. You might be pleasantly surprised by the results.

When I first began blogging, I designated Saturday as my primary new content day because it worked for me. My reasoning being, if it’s any good, it really won’t make much difference in the longterm wether I release it on Saturday or Tuesday. Now I see I may have accidently stepped into a good thing.
You make a good point. Less competition on the weekends makes them easier to break into.
I do most of my blogging on the weekends - but rarely post the entries on the weekends. (I don’t create many posts during the week, as I have a job that requires me to work & not blog.)
