WordPress Theme: Upstart Blogger Modicus

I’m releasing another WordPress theme, Upstart Blogger Modicus. In keeping with my other WordPress themes, this theme is designed to be:

  1. Minimalist: Very clean, spacious and easy to read.
  2. Fast: Lightweight, for speed.
  3. Ad-friendly: The columns are sized specifically to accept standard ad formats.
  4. Easy to install: You can install without plugins, though five plugins are recommended and included.
  5. Flexible: Includes an optional home page.

Modicus is now WordPress 2.3-ready. I’ve added the code to display tags on individual posts and a tag cloud in the sidebar.

Important Note! Modicus now comes in two flavors: the original 3-column version and a new 2-column version. The new 2-column version adds an Options tab to your WordPress admin, where you can set column arrangement and alignment, etc.

I know, I know. This should be one theme. But this is the first time I’ve created a theme with Options and I don’t have the time right now to figure it all out. Everything should work fine, but putting it all together was just a little beyond my current patience and skills. I may combine these into one snazzy theme with Options at some time in the future, so please subscribe so I can notify you of updates. Also, a special thanks to Christine of infinitepink for the inspiration.

Here’s a preview (click to enlarge):

Upstart Blogger Modicus Preview

You can also view the demo. Or, see my other blog, Mystics of the Ordinary, for another example of the theme in use.

Here’s a demo of the 2-column version.

And here’s the optional home page (no enlargement):

Be sure to subscribe to Upstart Blogger to be notified of updates!

Instructions

Note: Instructions for the 2-column version are similar, but Modicus 2-Column also includes an extra Options & Help tab to the Presentation tab. Be sure to read the instructiions in the tab.

  1. Open the UpstartBloggerModicus folder, then upload the ub_modicus folder to your WordPress theme folder.
  2. Open the plugins folder inside the UpstartBloggerModicus folder. Open the contents to your WordPress plugins folder. Read the readme files for each plugin for installation instructions.
  3. To select the theme, go to the Presentations tab of your WordPress admin and select Upstart Blogger Modicus.
  4. Click on the Widgets tab to arrange your widgets. You may also want to edit sidebar.php. To find more widgets, check out Plugins/WordPress Widgets.

Plugins

Four plugins are recommended and are included. Here are the links, if you want to check that you have the latest versions:

Five plugins are recommended and are included. Here are the links, if you want to check that you have the latest versions:

Notes

  1. The home page is optional. If you want to use it, just rename _home.php to home.php. You’ll also need to edit it to put in the names of the categories to display. See the comment in the file.
  2. To use your own image for the logo, create an image 100×100 pixels, name it m.jpg, and drop it in the images folder inside the Modicus theme folder.

Upgrading to 0.3 for WordPress 2.3

There are no changes to the style.css files in this update, so if you haven’t altered the template files you can just keep your old style sheet and copy over your old template files. If you’ve modified your template files, there’s no need to copy the new files. Just add the new WordPress 2.3 tags yourself. It’s easy to do. See the Codex on the_tags and wp_tag_cloud.

License

This WordPress theme is released under the Creative Commons Attribution v3.0, meaning you can do pretty much whatever you want with it, but you should (please) keep the link back to Upstart Blogger, either in the sidebar or the footer. See the README for details.

History

0.1 First released 06.19.07.
0.2 06.26.07

  1. The logo is no longer cheated left of the post column. I did that to align it with the “M” in the logo, but since I noticed that IE6 just chops it off and you’ll probably change this image with something else anyway, I decided it didn’t make sense to give it a negative left margin. Instead, if you want to indent the left column, you’ll need to edit style.css manually and give either the post or sidebar selector (depending on which column you’ve arranged on the left) a left margin.
  2. Removed extraneous text from comments message.
  3. Fixed missing div tags that were causing layout problems.
  4. Removed “Elsewhere” heading over the Blogroll. It’s now headed the default “Blogroll”. You can change this by changing the name of the Blogroll category (Manage > Categories) in your WP Admin.
  5. A little miscellaneous cleaning of the code. (I still have more to do on this).

0.3 Both versions updated on 10.08.07. This is a minor update. Tags have been added to individual posts and a tag cloud added to the sidebar.

Mods

Brad Maheffey of ArtCulture.com has released a great mod of Modicus called Modicus Remix. Grab it at ArtCulture Wordpress Theme – Modicus Remix.

    I have a quick question about this theme: Why is it that I can’t seem to get images to show up, unless you click on the blog post itself? Is there a workaround for this, or am I just a really dumb newbie? Cheers~

  2. Robert Ellis June 19th, 2007 at 3:10 pm

    Stephanie, if you want images to show up on the index page, you’ll have to do one of three things: actually put something with an img tag in the Optional Excerpt field for the post, display the full post instead of the excerpt, or change the tag to use the_excerpt_reloaded plugin.

    To display the full post instead of the excerpt, open index.php and find this:

    <?php the_excerpt(); ?>

    And change it to this (to display the whole post):

    <?php the_content(); ?>

    See the WordPress Codex for more info. You can also look at the instructions for the_excerpt_reloaded plugin if you want to use that instead.

  3. Stephanie June 19th, 2007 at 3:15 pm

    Woooooah, thanks for the speedy reply- and fix. You rock! (PS: Thanks also for the rad theme, it’s definitely my favourite out of everything I’ve seen/downloaded.)

  4. Will June 20th, 2007 at 10:42 pm

    Would just like to say how much of a greta template this one is, I like how it is so simple.

    I am going to use it my blog / portfolio .

    Will.

    Dear Mr. Ellis,
    I have fallen head over heels in geeky-love with Modicus. I’ve attempted to modify it into a 2 column theme a few times, but I’m definitely a better artist than a web designer. :)

    Is there any chance that you will be making and releasing a 2 column version of Modicus in the future? Is there any way I could encourage you to do this?! (I make some beautiful artisan jewelry… I’d be happy to send you some in exchange for a 2 col. version!)

    Whatcha say?

    In any case, thanks for the coded beauty and inspiration,

    Christine

  6. Robert Ellis June 21st, 2007 at 7:45 am

    Thanks very much for the positive feedback!

    Christine, I had no plans for a two-column version, but I’d be happy to put one together for you. And, while I love your jewelry—and your digital artwork, paintings, and Flickr photos—I’ll do it for you gratis. I’m tickled that someone with your talent would take to my theme. What would you like?

  7. Rhett June 21st, 2007 at 8:50 am

    This is a really beautiful design. I look at the new themes every day and I have never been so tempted to actually change. Really. Great job.

  8. Robert Ellis June 21st, 2007 at 9:14 am

    Thanks very much, Rhett.

    BTW, took a look at your site. Good stuff. I’d recommend your post, The Blog Invasion, to any blogging noob (and grab the PDF file).

  9. christine June 21st, 2007 at 10:03 am

    Robert! :)

    I can’t tell you how tickled *I* am that you are offering to do this.

    This is so wonderful, generous and unexpected, I’m just going to babble like a giddy 6-year-old talking to Santa!

    I would like:

    Basic:

    ~ A format of the same width as the original Modicus theme.

    ~ An entry/post area that is 500 to 550 pixels wide.

    ~ A widgetized right sidebar that is 250 or so. (Or whatever would work with the remaining space in the format with padding, etc. considered.)

    ~ Keep the option to post full entries instead of excerpts.

    ~ I *LOVE* the option of a home/splash page and I can’t wait to use it. Please keep that in the design!

    Extras that would be awesome:

    ~ A comment link at the bottom of each entry for my chatty guests.

    ~ My current theme (which is Simply Basic by Ash Haque) has separate .php files called “post-sidebar” and “page-sidebar” — this allows me to customize the sidebars on individual pages. For instance, right now all of my single pages and post pages simply have a randomized quote on each one. I really like this feature and would love to be able to keep it, if possible. Could you do this with Modicus?

    I think that’s all. Yes, that’s it. That’s my wish. (This is just way too cool!) I promise to tweak my new theme gently and link back to you, of course.

    If there’s anything that I need to clarify, please let me know.

    A million thank yous to you, dear Robert.

    – Christine

  10. Robert Ellis June 21st, 2007 at 10:14 am

    christine, your wish will be granted! It may take a few days and I may have some questions for you (I’ll email you directly), but it shouldn’t be a problem. I’ll be in touch soon and I’ll also make it available for anyone else who might be interested.

  11. Pamela June 21st, 2007 at 11:57 am

    Love, love, love this theme! I just a love a designer not afraid of white space.

    I made a slight modification in color and finally figured out how to not have the extended post all in bold red type – I split the post – however, I have lost the little [...] on the front page.

    Am I not holding my head right, or have I messed up by splitting the post with the “more” tag?

    Thank you for sharing this beautiful theme.

  12. Robert Ellis June 21st, 2007 at 12:11 pm

    Thanks, Pamela!

    Your mod looks great. The bold type is supposed to be only for the first paragraph of your post. So, if your post is only one paragraph long, the entire post will be bold. I use this almost like a pull quote. You don’t need to use the “more” tag (unless you want to). If you do use it, you will lose the [...], which is inserted by the excerpt tag in index.php.

    BTW, if you want to turn off the bold first paragraph, just edit style.css. Find all the selectors that include p:first-child and delete them.

    Hope that helps!

  13. Pamela June 21st, 2007 at 12:33 pm

    Robert

    Thanks – that was the ticket – works like a charm now!

    I feel like I can breathe again without all the colour and clever banners in the way.

  14. John June 21st, 2007 at 1:01 pm

    count me in as an interested party for a 2 column layout. great, great work, Robert—-can’t way to see the 2 column modification.

  15. Jake June 22nd, 2007 at 3:07 pm

    Thank you for designing such a splendid theme! This is my first blog (so there’s nothing much there, yet) and your design just leapt off the screen.

    In IE (6 and 7) the index and archive pages have a funny layout glitch – the main div (with the posts) overlaps the first sidebar. Can you point me to which page to bash at, or provide any suggestions?

    Thanks much!

  16. Robert Ellis June 22nd, 2007 at 3:36 pm

    Jake, thanks for bringing this to my attention. The files are missing a <div> tag.

    Until I fix this for release, you can fix it yourself by opening the files and adding <div class="post"> right above <div class="entry">

    Add a closing </div> right above <div id="sidebar2">

    That should fix it. I’m working on some other changes to the theme and should post an update sometime next week.

    Thanks again!

  17. Jake June 22nd, 2007 at 6:34 pm

    Thank you, Robert – perfect!

  18. chris June 25th, 2007 at 6:30 am

    Thanks Robert for the wonderful theme.

  19. Nathan June 25th, 2007 at 7:46 am

    great theme. thanks!

  20. Will June 26th, 2007 at 9:57 am

    Another great theme Robert!

  21. Michele June 28th, 2007 at 6:25 am

    Hello! i found your theme very nice and i think i will use it on my blog! but i have a question, how can i make links work in my posts? same links that work with other themes do not with modicus… please help!
    Michele

  22. Robert Ellis June 28th, 2007 at 7:03 am

    Michele, if you want links in the excerpts (I assume that’s what you’re talking about), you’ll need to edit the settings for the_excerpt_reloaded plugin or display full posts.

    To display the full post instead of the excerpt, open index.php and find this:
    < ?php the_excerpt(); ?>

    And change it to this (to display the whole post):
    < ?php the_content(); ?>

    See the WordPress Codex for more info. You can also look at the instructions for the_excerpt_reloaded plugin if you want to use that instead.

  23. bodhi June 30th, 2007 at 3:29 am

    greeting from Indonesia! I’ve mod your 2c Modicus and now I’m using it as my theme. Keep up the good work!

  24. Upstart Blogger June 30th, 2007 at 7:21 am

    Thanks, bodhi, your mod looks great!

  25. theSupermarket June 30th, 2007 at 7:12 pm

    where do you go to edit the pink text in the post body? i can’t find it anywhere.

  26. Niall July 1st, 2007 at 4:42 am

    Hey – love the theme – just installed on my new blog I am starting. Also using Rob Miller’s Now Reading – all seems ok until you go to the library and then it throws the theme out. Any ideas before I hassle Rob?

  27. Upstart Blogger July 1st, 2007 at 9:32 am

    theSupermarket, the pink text is in the .entry p:first-child selector. Just open up style.css and change it to whatever you want, or delete that selector and the first paragraph will match the rest of the post.

  28. Upstart Blogger July 1st, 2007 at 9:36 am

    Niall, I’m not sure how you have your blog set up, but it looks like your library posts are not reading the right theme template, which should be single.php. It’s not a problem with the plugin, but I can’t tell what’s going on without having access to your site.

  29. theSupermarket July 1st, 2007 at 9:45 am

    thanks UB. great theme.

  30. Nathan July 2nd, 2007 at 7:35 am

    Hi Robert, Wonderful theme. Simple and clean just the way I like it.

    Question — I’ve been searching and searching through the stylesheet, but can’t find where list-style-type is specified as none for unordered and ordered lists in the .entry/.post class. Suggestions?

  31. Upstart Blogger July 2nd, 2007 at 7:41 am

    Nathan, the lists are set to list-style:none; at the top of style.php in the Normalize group, which resets all of the selectors to defaults before styling them in the rest of the file, a tip I picked up from Transcending CSS. If you want to style them, you should add a selector elsewhere in the file.

  32. 137 July 2nd, 2007 at 7:59 am

    Upstart Blogger, your designs are fantastic, I’m particularly pleased with Modicus, and have been looking to use it for a website I’m designing for a friend. However, I have recently hit a problem with the customization process. I wonder if you know, what might be the easiest way to integrate a shelf into the theme’s header? I’d like to have a Shelf link logo aligned with the header image, with the shelf then appearing below the logo, and before the main body text. But I’m having a lot of issues. Can you help me? Thank you

  33. Upstart Blogger July 2nd, 2007 at 8:06 am

    Thanks, 137. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about shelves. Is there a script you’re trying to work with? What have you done so far? If you have a sandbox that you’re experimenting in, I’d be willing to take a look. But unfortunately I can’t offer support for other scripts and plugs.

  34. Roman July 9th, 2007 at 4:16 am

    I like minimal thing, but your blog template is toooo minimal :-) Maybe that was your goal. You’ve reached it then :-)

  35. Netta July 9th, 2007 at 1:06 pm

    Hello there! Just wanted to thank you for the great theme. I’m putting together a website for a client, and I pointed this theme out to him and he absolutely fell in love with it (just as I did!)

    We’re using the 2 column version (www.brandnotbland.com) and I was wondering if there’s a problem with everyone’s sidebar overlapping the content area, or just us? Can you help please? Thanks!

  36. Upstart Blogger July 9th, 2007 at 1:10 pm

    Netta, I have seen this problem before. Two things to check:

    1) If you’ve modified any of the template files, make sure there are no extra lines at the tops or bottoms of the files.

    2) Check that you’ve uploaded only the ub_modicus2c folder to your themes folder. It’s inside the UpstartBloggerModicus2c folder.

    If neither of these is the problem, I’d be happy to take a quick look if you send me your login info. I’m sending you a separate email.

  37. Netta July 9th, 2007 at 1:13 pm

    Ah ha! I uploaded the entire folder instead of just the ub_modicus2c folder. Thanks a ton for the super speedy response, and the support!

  38. Upstart Blogger July 9th, 2007 at 1:14 pm

    No problem. I have done that before myself.

  39. Netta July 9th, 2007 at 2:02 pm

    woops… I’m modifying the sidebar now, he wants different links in a list format for all the different pages, but I’m having trouble making it an actual list! i’ve tried the tag, tried separating it with tags… all with no luck. any suggestions?

  40. Upstart Blogger July 9th, 2007 at 2:12 pm

    Open style.css and delete these lines:

    ol,ul {
    list-style: none;
    }

    That should do it. Or, add a line like this:

    #sidebar ol {
    list-style-type: decimal;
    }

    or whatever style you want.

  41. Netta July 9th, 2007 at 2:27 pm

    hhmmm… i tried both and neither are seeming to work for me… ?

  42. Upstart Blogger July 9th, 2007 at 2:30 pm

    I’m not seeing any lists in your sidebar. Are you using widgets? You’ll have to describe the problem in more detail.

  43. Upstart Blogger July 9th, 2007 at 2:35 pm

    Ah, wait. I see the problem. Your list of links in not enclosed in list tags. You need to add something like this:

    <ul>
    <li>link</li>
    <li>link</li>
    <li>...etc...</li>
    <ul>

    The problem you’re experiencing is because of your markup and has nothing to do with the theme. So be careful if you’ve already edited style.css

  44. Netta July 9th, 2007 at 2:35 pm

    Argh! My FTP wasn’t overwriting the files like I specified it to… I restarted the FTP program and all’s well now. Really… I can’t thank you enough for such great support!

  45. reazOne July 12th, 2007 at 11:42 pm

    Nice theme. I love these 3 sweet columns!

    But is there any chance to make a footer for The Upstart Blogger Modicus like “FOOTSIE” below on this page?

  46. Upstart Blogger July 13th, 2007 at 7:05 am

    reazOne, Modicus already comes with a footer.php file, but there’s nothing visible in it. Unfortunately, positioning it in the layout is a little tricky. If I ever get around to making a new version, I’ll try to add an optional footer.

  47. reazOne July 13th, 2007 at 8:21 am

    Yup, I agree. Unfortunately, there is nothing I could do with that. : )

  48. ifender July 13th, 2007 at 8:48 pm

    i have the same problem:)

  49. mikel July 14th, 2007 at 1:12 pm

    hi
    i cannot find where to delet that “just another wordpress blog”…

    please tell me where

    :S

  50. mikel July 14th, 2007 at 1:58 pm

    sorry
    i never thought that was in the general wp options…

    obvious… :S

  51. mikel July 18th, 2007 at 4:07 am

    one more thing…

    how can i add the author on the info of every post?

    thanks

  52. Upstart Blogger July 18th, 2007 at 7:10 am

    mikel, just add the author tag wherever you want the author info to appear:

    <?php the_author(); ?>

    You’ll find the post info for each entry in single.php or in sidebar2.php, if you’re using the 2-column version.

  53. mikel July 20th, 2007 at 12:38 am

    thanks upstart!!! workin’
    greets

  54. aytac July 25th, 2007 at 11:02 am

    thanks it s very nice.

  55. Guillermo July 27th, 2007 at 8:41 am

    I’m getting this error:

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function: language_attributes() in /home/virtual/site5/fst/var/www/html/blog/wp-content/themes/ub_modicus/header.php on line 2

    Anyone?

  56. Upstart Blogger July 27th, 2007 at 8:50 am

    Guillermo, you shouldn’t be having this problem, but it most likely has something to do with this tag in your header.php file:

    <?php language_attributes(); ?>

    Check to see that you’re running the latest version of WordPress.

  57. janne August 1st, 2007 at 9:00 am

    Hi,
    I really appreciate your theme. Finally one that stands out by it’s minimalistic and usable appearance.

    One issue though:
    I can’t get flv’s to play.
    Here’s the plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/vipers-video-quicktags/
    It worked before I installed your theme. Is there any code I need t tweak?

  58. Upstart Blogger August 2nd, 2007 at 9:28 am

    Janne, I’m not familiar with the plugin and the author’s site is down. But it’s unlikely that the theme would be the problem. If the instructions for the plugin don’t include modifying any template files, it should work. The plugin author would probably be more helpful that I can be.

    Good luck!

  59. Dan Dixon August 4th, 2007 at 3:09 am

    Hi there. I’ve just started using and playing around with your modicus theme. Loving it a lot, it really stands out. Also, I really dig all your other themes, especially the most recent sandbox one you’ve done. All of them are great typographically based designs, and there ain’t a Lucida font in sight.

  60. APM August 4th, 2007 at 6:44 am

    hey there…
    i’d like to use the home page, but i would also like the header link to bring you back to the main blog index. it seems that right now, you have to choose between one or the other. is there a way you can have both?

  61. Upstart Blogger August 4th, 2007 at 7:59 am

    Dan, thanks for your comments. Glad you like the themes.

    APM, I can’t think of an easy way to do what you want. It might be possible, but I’m not sure how to do it. If I think of a way, I’ll post it, but I vaguely remember trying this before and coming up empty. Sorry.

  62. Adam August 7th, 2007 at 2:57 pm

    I love your themes. Nice work.

    I am having trouble installing on wordpress blog. After following all instructions I get the following error. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again for the great themes!

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function: language_attributes() in /home/.niche/adkensmith/theadamsmith.com/blog/wp-content/themes/upstart-blogger-modicus-01/header.php on line 2

  63. Upstart Blogger August 9th, 2007 at 8:02 am

    @Adam: I’ve answered this above. Check to see you’re using the latest version of WordPress. If that doesn’t work, delete this tag from header.php:

    <?php language_attributes(); ?>

  64. Ed August 14th, 2007 at 12:42 pm

    Hi, this is a wonderful theme! I’m just wondering how to get images in posts to display on the front page. What would I have to edit and how would I do it?

    If you know what I’m saying is that I have an image at the start of a post, but it only displays when you go to that post’s actual page. If you could email me, that would be great.

    Thanks, Ed

  65. Upstart Blogger August 14th, 2007 at 12:44 pm

    Thanks, Ed. I’ve answered this question above. See Jun 19 07 at 3:10 pm.

  66. Ed August 14th, 2007 at 1:05 pm

    Sorry for the double post, but is there a way of doing it without displaying the full post like other blogs?

    Thanks,
    Ed

  67. Upstart Blogger August 14th, 2007 at 1:08 pm

    Ed, the answer to your question is above, in the same comment.

  68. Ed August 14th, 2007 at 1:46 pm

    I’m sorry, I know I’m a complete dummy, but I’ve read the post but don’t understand what “put something with an img tag in the Optional Excerpt field for the post” means. Apologies for this.

    Thanks,
    ED

  69. Upstart Blogger August 14th, 2007 at 1:53 pm

    Ahhh, that’s a different question :) No problem.

    When you create a post in WordPress, if you look below where you write the post, you’ll see a field called Optional Excerpt (you may need to click on the + symbol next to the “Optional Excerpt” label to display it). Then add the text you want to display on the home page, along with the image link (img tag), which will look something like this:

    <img src="http://[your domain]/images/[name of image]" alt="[title of image]" />

  70. Ed August 14th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

    Here I go again! Really Sorry. How will I create a More link while using the Optional Excerpt box as it doesn’t seem to work.

  71. Upstart Blogger August 14th, 2007 at 2:12 pm

    If you use the optional excerpt, you won’t have a more tag. You can add More… to the end of the excerpt and people will know to click the post title, or you’ll have to hard code the the_permalink tag in the template file.

  72. Ed August 14th, 2007 at 2:14 pm

    Yeah, I won’t be doing that unless I know how to.

    Thanks for your patience and great help,
    Ed

  73. Upstart Blogger August 14th, 2007 at 2:17 pm

    No problem. You’re welcome!

  74. Dave August 14th, 2007 at 2:23 pm

    How would I change the size of the post titles on the front page?

    Tks–Dave

  75. Upstart Blogger August 15th, 2007 at 8:58 am

    You’ll have to edit the style.css file. I think the selector you’re looking for is ul.archive li, but you’ll have to double check.

  76. Dave August 15th, 2007 at 9:46 am

    I apologize greatly, as I now know you are busy but I editing it and nothing is happening. It is definitely the archive class, but what should I edit inside of it. Could you give me “ul.archive li{display: block; padding: 0 0 1em;}”

  77. Upstart Blogger August 15th, 2007 at 9:48 am

    No problem. If that is the right tag, just add something like font-size: 24px;, or whatever size you want. So the selector would look like this:

    ul.archive li {display:block; padding: 0 0 1em; font-size: 24px;}

  78. Dave August 15th, 2007 at 9:57 am

    Oh no! That changes the size of the whole post. What should I do? Is there anything?

    Tks — Dave

  79. Upstart Blogger August 15th, 2007 at 10:02 am

    Ok, try this:

    Add a new selector like this:

    ul.archive li p {font-size: 1em;}

    You may have to play with the font-size in both selectors to get what you want.

  80. Dave August 15th, 2007 at 10:15 am

    Thanks so much, it works perfectolovely! (A word I made up)

    Dave

  81. Marco Antonio August 17th, 2007 at 5:54 am

    Excelente layout y disenyo. :) Una pregunta… es posible incluir imagenes en la pagina principal, en lugar de solo texto? Como disenyador, me encanta el template, pero no me permite mostrar imagenes desde el primer momento… :( gracias!

  82. Upstart Blogger August 17th, 2007 at 5:59 am

    La respuesta está arriba. Jun 19 07 at 3:10 pm.

  83. Amy August 17th, 2007 at 11:05 am

    First of all, I LOVE the modicus theme. But I’m curious about why hyperlinks only work in the actual post, not also from the exerpt in the main list? It seems very strange to view the exerpt but not see hyperlinks until you click on the title link.

  84. Upstart Blogger August 17th, 2007 at 11:58 am

    Thanks, Amy. The reason hyperlinks don’t work in the main list is that it uses excerpts instead of displaying the full post. WordPress doesn’t display hyperlinks in excerpts. You can change this if you want. See Jun 28 07 at 7:03 am above.

  85. Ed August 17th, 2007 at 3:14 pm

    Hi, How would I add a background image to the theme?

    Thanks,
    Ed

  86. Upstart Blogger August 17th, 2007 at 7:23 pm

    @Ed: You’ll have to edit the style.css file. See Background Images.

    @Everyone: I’m really sorry, but I simply don’t have time to answer general CSS questions unrelated to a specific problem with my themes. A good introduction to CSS can be found at HTML Dog.

  87. donggi August 19th, 2007 at 4:25 am

    Hello! I really appreciate you having made this very nice theme.
    It’s exactly what I was looking for!
    but, I have a question whether you maybe so busy..
    How can I add category in the sidebar?
    I tried to paste this,
    Categories’); ?>
    but, it looks different from your style..
    How can I do? Please help me… Thank you!!

  88. Upstart Blogger August 19th, 2007 at 9:59 am

    @dongg: If you are using widgets, just drag the Caegories widget into the sidebar. Go to Presentation > Widgets in your WP Admin.

    Or, add this tag to your sidebar: <?php wp_list_categories(); ?>

    See the codex: wp_list_categories

  89. wytstaat August 19th, 2007 at 12:14 pm

    i’m trying to edit the default “Here’s where you add a little blurb about yourself…” paragraph out and put my own description but I don’t know what I should do to the index.php file. I thought that maybe editing the sidebar.php file would do the trick but doing this just showed an error. Could someone please tell me what to do? Thanks!

  90. Upstart Blogger August 19th, 2007 at 12:46 pm

    @wytstaat: If you’re using the regular version of Modicus, just open index.php, find the “blurb” text, and replace it with your own.

    If you’re using the 2-column version, then the text is in sidebar.php. Again, open the file in a text editor, find the actual “blurb” text, and replace it with your own.

    In either case, keep the <p> and </p> tags that enclose the “blurb” text.

  91. wytstaat August 19th, 2007 at 12:56 pm

    Thank you so much for you immediate response! Interesting that that’s exactly what I did before I posted my query. I tried it again and now everything looks great. Thanks again — your themes are gorgeous!

  92. Cerven Cotter August 20th, 2007 at 4:03 am

    Cheers for a really cool theme. Spent most of the evening to get my site back online and tweaking the Modicus theme:). Took me weeks to find a template that I really liked and could tweak to reflect my own style:D

    I only have one question. I’m pretty new to the whole CSS world (learning everyday) but I’m really battling to get the footer to show up at the base of the site. I’d like to replicate the graphic element at the bottom of my site.

    Also some of the links/icons don’t seem to show up, any ideas?

    Thanks again for a great theme.

  93. Upstart Blogger August 20th, 2007 at 9:09 am

    @Cerven: Thanks for your comments.

    Adding a footer isn’t that complicated, but telling you how to do it is. Here’s the easiest way to do it: Add the code you want in the footer to footer.php (you can cut or copy from your header or sidebar). Then find a theme that has a footer and cut and paste the CSS for the footer into style.css for Modicus. Then experiment until it works.

    I looked at your site. The only thing missing are the recent comments. If the plugin is turned on, you should see them listed. Otherwise, I’m not sure what you mean by missing icons/links.

  94. Cerven August 20th, 2007 at 11:45 pm

    Cheers for the advise, will get onto it soon.

    Thanks again for great theme and your cool articles on this site.

  95. Ante August 22nd, 2007 at 2:41 am

    Heya, love your theme, it’s by far the most useful/just enough theme I’ve seen so far.

    Just one question, I’m using the optional _home.php starting page, everything works besides my archive link. I am clueless about it. Got a clue? Need to make an archive page and link? I organize my posts date and names if it does a difference.

    Salutations form Sweden ;)

  96. Upstart Blogger August 22nd, 2007 at 3:32 am

    Modicus includes an archives template. Just create a new page in your WordPress admin named Archives and select Archives Page as the Page Template.

  97. Ante August 22nd, 2007 at 5:26 am

    That did the trick! Thanks for the swift reply.

  98. wytstaat August 22nd, 2007 at 3:38 pm

    On the 2 Column version, what do i have to modify to change the pink text (first paragraph of every post by default) into a shade of dark blue? i’ve been looking around but can’t find anything. All help will be appreciated! Thanks!

  99. Upstart Blogger August 22nd, 2007 at 3:40 pm

    Please read the comments before posting. I’ve answered this question above. See Jul 01 07 at 9:32 am. Thanks.

  100. wytstaat August 22nd, 2007 at 3:52 pm

    just wanted to let you know that i solved the pink text issue — though i’m not sure how. by editing a link under the sidebar.php file, i somehow got all the text to turn just the right color!

  101. wytstaat August 22nd, 2007 at 4:23 pm

    An “&” has appeared in the middle of <a href="www.2dexterous.com" rel="nofollow"></a>

  102. Upstart Blogger August 22nd, 2007 at 4:27 pm

    I’m sorry, I can’t fix your code for you. Something you’ve done while editing the template files has created the problem. Look at your source to see which file it’s in.

    BTW, I don’t know what you did to the sidebar.php, but unless you broke some tag, it shouldn’t have anything to do with the bold pink text that begins each post.

  103. crystal August 23rd, 2007 at 6:55 am

    thanks for the wonderful theme. how can i make the comment count for each post appear on the main page???

  104. Upstart Blogger August 23rd, 2007 at 7:00 am

    @crystal: Add this tag where you want the comment count to appear:

    <?php comments_popup_link(__('0'), __('1'), __('%')); ?>

    See the Codex: comments_popup_link.

  105. hollismb August 23rd, 2007 at 7:16 am

    IE6 and IE7 really don’t like the .post p:first-child and also won’t accept me commenting out the blockquote first paragraph. The comments also show up larger and bolder in IE7, not in Firefox. Any suggestions?

    Also, how to change it so that numbered and ordered lists show up bulleted and numbered in posts?

  106. Upstart Blogger August 23rd, 2007 at 7:42 am

    @hollismb: I’m not sure what you mean. IE6 won’t recognize first-child at all, so the text just displays normally. It works fine in IE7. As far as the comments in IE, the fonts are sized in ems and different browsers size fonts differently. You could try editing div.bubble cite in style.css.

    The lists are reset at the top of style.css with this tag:

    ol,ul {list-style: none;}

    You can delete that or just add your own ul and ol styles.

  107. hollismb August 23rd, 2007 at 8:08 am

    Okay, the font sizing makes sense. I just took it out, because when I commented out the blockquote specific portion, the text still rendered larger anyway.

    If I take out the ul,ol styling, the lists show up with bullets in the sidebar, but not in the posts. I’ve currently got it commented out as an example here: http://hollismb.net/?p=722#more-722

  108. Upstart Blogger August 23rd, 2007 at 8:46 am

    Hmmm. Okay, put the ul, ol styling back in. Then add something like this:

    .post ol {list-style-type:decimal;}

  109. hollismb August 23rd, 2007 at 9:14 am

    I appreciate the suggestion, but that didn’t work either. It’s really quite odd, actually, because I don’t really see any other list-styling anywhere else in the CSS. Even if you keep the ol,ul stuff commented out, and add that line, it still doesn’t show numbers/bullets. I’m wondering if maybe there’s an open div tag somewhere? I haven’t made any changes to your theme other than what I’ve mentioned.

  110. Upstart Blogger August 23rd, 2007 at 9:36 am

    Okay, sorry for the confusion. You also have to reset the display property. Try this:

    .entry ol {display:list-item;list-style-type: decimal;}

  111. DaveNewton August 24th, 2007 at 10:10 am

    I just want to say, I’m delighted with modicus. I’ve always liked working with good designers with strong graphic ideas, and this is certainly both. And, Robert, you’ve been responsive to my questions. Couldn’t ask for more if I was paying. Long may you wave.

  112. Upstart Blogger August 24th, 2007 at 10:12 am

    Thanks very much for your comment. Good luck with your new blog!

  113. anonymous August 24th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

    How does one show only a preview of a post? Please feel free to delete this comment and point me in the right direction via e-mail if that is appropriate.

  114. Upstart Blogger August 24th, 2007 at 2:16 pm

    I’m not sure what you mean. The theme already shows a preview or excerpt of the post. If you want the tag, it’s the_excerpt tag.

  115. wytstaat August 29th, 2007 at 2:20 pm

    Hello again — your support has been instrumental in encouraging and helping me learn about blogging.

    Question: How does one limit how many posts are shown on the main page?

  116. Upstart Blogger August 29th, 2007 at 2:24 pm

    @wytstaat, the easiest way to change the number of posts shown on the main page is to go to Options > Reading in your WP Admin and change “Show at most” number for your Blog Pages.

  117. wytstaat August 29th, 2007 at 2:28 pm

    figured it out! Options -> Reading

    (sorry — you can delete my last two comments)

  118. wytstaat August 29th, 2007 at 3:07 pm

    have you ever thought of adding a more advanced page navigation feature somewhere towards the bottom of the page? i was trying to use WP-PageNavi 2.11 (http://lesterchan.net/wordpress/readme/wp-pagenavi.html) but the navigation appears at the top of the page (rather than the bottom). is it at all possible to edit the theme so that there is something more detailed than “Previous Entires” or perhaps implement WP-PageNavi 2.11 but placing the code some where else other than the footer file?

  119. Upstart Blogger August 29th, 2007 at 3:17 pm

    Actually, I try to minimize my use of plugins. I don’t know anything about WP-PageNavi, but you should be able to add the tag for the plugin to any template file. You could try putting it in single.php to see if that does what you want.

  120. Brad Mahaffey September 2nd, 2007 at 10:13 pm

    Remixed this skin a bit, and plan on releasing it on ArtCulture.com as “Modicus Remixed”. Let me know if you have any special requests in the release, or would like to link to it from this blog as well.

    Was a great starting point :) Thanks!

  121. GoranG September 3rd, 2007 at 7:06 am

    I want to add a background image on this theme. But I want to keep a white background behind the content. Make sense? I tried to set #FFF to .wrapper but that did not do the trick. Is there another DIV i missed? Please someone help!
    See: http://www.gudinge.com/images/nice-theme.jpg

  122. Upstart Blogger September 3rd, 2007 at 8:49 am

    @Brad: Art Culture looks great! Bookmarked! You’re free to release a mod of Modicus as long as you include a link to Upstart Blogger somewhere in the footer or sidebar.

    @GoranG: You can’t just set a color to the wrapper because it collapses. What you want is a background image with a white background. See A List Apart: Articles: Faux Columns.

  123. GoranG September 3rd, 2007 at 10:58 am

    @background image
    Hm, no that won’t work… I want to repeat-x my faded background. But as the content area (the header and the three columns) are “transparent”, the faded background image is seen behind the posts and menu. I want a simple white color as a background for the content, 916px wide. Can’t I add a (div style=”background-color:#FFF;”) around all content div’s? Like a big white paper lying on the faded background? Heh?

  124. Upstart Blogger September 3rd, 2007 at 11:46 am

    @GoranG: The problem is that the divs inside the wrapper are floated. You’ll need to add a hack to get around this. This should help:

  125. mikel September 6th, 2007 at 3:40 am

    im getting this error: (for the search term “tropic” on the applesearch.js, when a page is not found)

    Look what we found.

    tropic 042 | emission – isolation ep
    Fatal error: Call to undefined function: the_excerpt_reloaded() in /home/.testarossa/inquietudes/inq-mag.com/wp-content/themes/UpstartBloggerModicus/ub_modicus/search.php on line 13

    it gives me the first result and after it i get the error.

    any solution please?

  126. Upstart Blogger September 6th, 2007 at 8:18 am

    @mikel: The problem is not applesearch.js. It’s the_excerpt Reloaded plugin.

    I should have a conditional statement in search.php so you don’t get this error. If you install and activate this plug you should be fine. Or, you can replace this code in search.php:

    <?php the_excerpt_reloaded(15, '', 'excerpt', FALSE, '[more]', FALSE, 1, TRUE); ?>

    with this:

    <?php if ( function_exists('the_excerpt_reloaded')) :?>
    <?php the_excerpt_reloaded(15, '', 'excerpt', FALSE, '[more]', FALSE, 1, TRUE); ?>
    	<?php else: ?>
    	<?php the_excerpt(); ?>
    <?php endif; ?>

    i love upstartblogger!!!

  128. Ron Klaren September 10th, 2007 at 10:42 pm

    Great theme!

    I based the theme of my website (www.ronklaren.nl) on this one!

    Thanks a billion!

    Ron

  129. Upstart Blogger September 11th, 2007 at 6:58 am

    @Ron: You’re welcome! Your site looks great.

  130. Spanish Fry September 11th, 2007 at 3:47 pm

    Hey there. Great job with the layout – it’s a perfect minimalistic style that lets you really brand a blog efficiently. I had a couple of questions to help me improve my particular layout:

    (1) On the index page, is it possible to display the amount of comments for the post somewhere near the title of each article? I find that articles with more comments attract more discussion in a sort of exponential effect so this would be a great benefit.

    (2) Also, the footer. If I designed a custom footer image, how could I pop it in.

    (3) Finally, I know you requested that we link back to you to give you credit for the layout (something I am delighted to do) and there is code in built with the theme to do this but it seems to have disappeared on my site. As I said I’m more than happy to link back to you. Let me know what to do.

    That’s all for now, but I’m sure I’ll ask some more of you again soon.

    Cheers.

  131. Spanish Fry September 11th, 2007 at 7:24 pm

    Another thing – is it possible to have the background (the area with no text) a different colour than than the areas with text. Ideally I would’ve loved to have a red/blue area outside the text to give the blog some definition.

  132. beth September 14th, 2007 at 4:23 am

    Hi,
    I love this theme. I’m sorry I can’t show you how I’m tweaking it because I’m doing with some weird thing called MAMP that gives me a local server so I don’t have to ftp all the time. I digress.

    I’ve imported old posts into my test modicus site, and the only issue I’m stuck on is that I seem to have lost the hard line breaks in my posts? Has this happened to anyone else?
    :o)
    B

  133. Upstart Blogger September 14th, 2007 at 7:56 am

    @beth: Thanks for your comment. Are you experiencing the problem only on the index page? If so, it’s because the theme uses excerpts instead of the full post and WP strips out the tags in excerpts. See 19 Jun 07.

  134. beth September 14th, 2007 at 10:49 pm

    Intriguing. Thanks for posting back so fast! I had read that 19 Jun comment and as a result had added in
    so I would get an entire post showing and this worked fine, but still the prob with the hard line breaks. But it’s got to be the issue you mention, as the archives display no problem. Maybe I’ll try deactivating that excerpt plugin and see if that helps at all…

  135. beth September 14th, 2007 at 10:51 pm

    Oh sorry I meant < ?php the_content(); ?> is what I’d already changed it to. D’oh.

  136. Spanish Fry September 17th, 2007 at 4:51 pm

    Hey, I just commented before but you seemed to miss it. Wonder if you could help me out with my queries.

    Cheers.

  137. Upstart Blogger September 17th, 2007 at 5:16 pm

    @Spanish Fry: Sorry, I did miss your last comment.

    1) On the index page, is it possible to display the amount of comments for the post somewhere near the title of each article?…

    (2) Also, the footer. If I designed a custom footer image, how could I pop it in.

    (3) Finally, I know you requested that we link back to you to give you credit for the layout (something I am delighted to do) and there is code in built with the theme to do this but it seems to have disappeared on my site. …

    Another thing – is it possible to have the background (the area with no text) a different colour than than the areas with text.

    You can display the comment count with this tag (just add it to index.php next to the title tag:

    <?php comments_number('zero', 'one', 'more', 'number'); ?>

    See the Codex: comments_number.

    To add an image to the footer, just add an the image tag to footer.php. Same with adding a link. Just copy this to your footer or sidebar:

    <a href="http://www.upstartblogger.com/" title="Upstart Blogger">Upstart Blogger</a>

    Finally, regarding the background color, yes it’s possible, but it’s fairly complicated. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to tell you how to edit the CSS for this. See the Upstart Blogger WordPress Themes FAQ for some suggested resources.

    Hope that helps!

  138. Chris September 19th, 2007 at 2:29 pm

    Hi, I’m wondering, how do you get the ‘apple look’ on your search button. I’ve enabled the search widget, but it is just a normal one. I notice that when I am taken to a search results page, the apple search comes up, in addition to the normal widget search.

    Can you please point me in the right direction to get it working for me?

    Thanks
    Chris

  139. Chris September 19th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

    …Nevermind, I just copied the code I saw when the search results came up and put it where I wanted it. I’m new to all this, obviously.

    Thanks for the great theme!

  140. Upstart Blogger September 21st, 2007 at 1:09 pm

    @Chris: Glad you got it working.

  141. Spanish Fry September 26th, 2007 at 5:56 pm

    Hey again. I’m sorry but I just can’t seem to find a resource that can assist me in getting the background going. Any help you would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    SF.

  142. Donald Mckenzie Jr September 27th, 2007 at 2:08 am

    Hey Chris, thanks for the tempates. I’ve looked all over the net and these are the best ones I have seen so far. Thanks a lot man.

  143. beth September 27th, 2007 at 2:46 am

    I’m sorry to sound like a stuck record, but is there any sort of fix for my absence of line breaks on the front page? I’ve disabled the excerpt plugin. Everything displays fine in the archives too. Am I doing something wrong?
    :o(
    B

  144. beth September 27th, 2007 at 2:58 am

    Oh! I think it’s a css thing, in the padding bit:

    ul.archive p {
    display: block;
    padding: 0 0 .8em 0;
    font-size: 11px;
    text-align: left;}

  145. Omi September 28th, 2007 at 12:39 am

    Theme is wonderful. Will you be updating to be compatible with Wordpress 2.3?

  146. Upstart Blogger October 1st, 2007 at 1:45 pm

    @Spanish Fry: Sorry for the delay. Looks like you’ve figured things out. A link to Upstart Blogger would be appreciated.

    @beth: So, did you get this working the way you want? Looks like you’re not using Modicus on your site.

    @Omi: I will be updating the themes to 2.3, but it may be a while.

  147. beth October 8th, 2007 at 3:49 am

    Ha! It’s not up on my site yet, but it’s not far away. I did get it sorted out – the problem was that I am a CSS and PHP tinkerer – I really know very little about it. But I have been persevering and making good progress. I have tweaked the colours and a few other things here and there. Have also just wrestled FAlbum into submission. I really need to get myself an Idiot’s Guide to CSS, but I’m just not patient enough and have to google each issue as I come to it!
    :-)

    Just starting out my site.. been trying to use this theme (3 colum) as it’s PERFECT for what I want. But for some reason when I activate it I get a blank page!!!

    See: http://mimaandme.com/pop/

    Do you know if i’m doing something wrong?

    It’s been like this all day, all other themes are working and I’m going slightly crazy.. loading and uploading plugins/themes etc.. Trying to catch the fault but can’t.

    Can you help me? Please.

    Thanks.. I’ll bookmark ,but email if you can.

    :)

  150. Pete October 21st, 2007 at 10:55 am

    Awesome theme thank you!

    When the installing is done, and the plugins are installed I still get the error:

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function language_attributes() in BLABLABLA – /wp-content/themes/ub_modicus/header.php on line 2

  152. Upstart Blogger October 22nd, 2007 at 6:54 am

    @Melissa: Please read the Upstart Blogger WordPress Themes FAQ before posting.

    Um. Have finally put my site up! Hooray! But one thing that escaped my notice until now (of course) is that because I’m not using the ‘excerpt’ thing on the front page and am instead displaying the whole post, the comments on a post are not displayed. I tried copying other code from the single.php file, but you still can’t click to see comments – it just tells you how many there are – you can only view them if you view the post via it’s permanlink. This sounds convoluted, but if you look at my site, it might be clearer.

    wow! I was looking for a minimalistic template for my blog and found this one:is just great!!! Thanks so much for sharing!
    Btw I´m trying to install the 2 columns v. and have the problem that the side bar overlaps the main content. I´ve read a post upper and did what you said (delete all themes in the folder) but still is not working. Do you have an idea? http://www.designaddict.it/

    thanks so much!

  155. Upstart Blogger November 1st, 2007 at 11:28 am

    @darla: I’m not sure what you mean by “delete all themes in the folder,” but I can’t really tell why you’re having the problem you’re having. If you haven’t changed anything, it should work. Try deleting the theme and doing a clean install. Make sure you upload only the ub_modicus2c folder to your WP themes folder.

  156. Brooklyn November 3rd, 2007 at 4:56 pm

    Absolutely beautiful.

    I’m trying to get started on my own blog and I’ve tried several WP themes, but I’m pretty sure this one is a keeper!

  157. daria November 4th, 2007 at 10:07 am

    I deleted and copied the folder in the wp themes but still I´m having the same problem…and haven´t changed anything in the theme. That´s strange… :_(

  158. sarah November 6th, 2007 at 9:15 am

    Dear Robert,

    I adore this theme. It was exactly what my graduate media organization was looking for to make our website sophisticated:)

    Our site is http://www.eyespeakIMA.org
    I’m using the two-column version, and I’ve tinkered quite a bit.

    I am having a big problem — it looks like a dream in FireFox, but the index/main doesn’t display correctly in Explorer or Safari: it only shows the first post, and no sidebar. Once you go to a page, everything is fine.

    Any idea what might be going on? I am not using the dynamic sidebar fcn.

    Sarah from EYEspeak IMA

  159. Upstart Blogger November 6th, 2007 at 9:38 am

    @darla: I can’t tell you what’s going on, but you seem to have some other error messages in there. You might try doing a clean install of the latest version of WordPress.

    @sarah: This is very odd, but it looks like Safari craps out where you have some script in your code. Try removing the script and see if it works. EYEspeak IMA looks great, BTW!

  160. Joshua S Hill November 6th, 2007 at 3:17 pm

    G’day mate… my blog, JoshSHill, is using your new Modicus design, and I love it… however, I’m having problems using the footer… it doesn’t want to … well, it’s not at the foot, thus, I can’t use it, because it’s somewhere in the “Welcome too” and the small bio area… I’ve left a small counter in the footer, so you’ll see what i mean… any chance of a hand?

    Also, while you’re at it, if you like the content, a bit of publicity for the Writers guild wouldn’t be too bad… ie, more people who come to my website, I benefit, and so do the writers guild, hopefully…

    Cheers,
    Josh

  161. Upstart Blogger November 6th, 2007 at 4:06 pm

    @Joshua: Modicus doesn’t use a footer. Put your counter in the sidebar.

    If you really want a footer, you’ll have to experiment. See this comment.

  162. sarah November 6th, 2007 at 10:08 pm

    thanks for getting back to me so quickly! i am actually more of a tinkerer than a programmer, but i love figuring things out in code.

    on that note, i’m not sure what script means — what should i look for and in which file — index? sidebar?

    thanks a mil & thanks for helping us make our EYEspeak IMA site so great.

    also, i love this comment preview plugin — what is that?

  163. Upstart Blogger November 7th, 2007 at 9:04 am

    @sarah: Just checked your site and it’s looking great, so I guess you figured it out.

    The plugin is Live Comment Preview.

  164. sarah November 7th, 2007 at 9:49 am

    oops — i actually didn’t do anything to it yet:) front page still not working in safari or IE (sidebar, posts after the first two, but if you let me know what script looks like, i bet i’ll be able to figure it out.

    thanks!

  165. Upstart Blogger November 7th, 2007 at 9:54 am

    @sarah: oops, you’re right. I was looking at it in Firefox.

    The page breaks starting here in your code:

    <p><span style="font-weight: bold"><script><!-- D(["mb","Proposal Guidelines\u003c/span\>\u003cbr\>\u003cbr\>NYC graduate students who would like to present their socially engaged media projects at [ ESC ] should submit their proposal by \u003cspan style\u003d\&#8221;font-weight:bold\&#8221;\>\n\n\nFriday, October 26, 2007. \u003c/span\> \u003cbr\>\u003cbr\>Projects may include non-traditional genres such as: new media, video art, web-based projects, experimental, interactive, performance, media art, installations, sound projects and games. So my best guess is that it has something to do with the script. Try deleting that and see if things work. If not, I don’t know what’s going on.

  166. sarah November 7th, 2007 at 10:03 am

    great! i deleted that entry and now it is all working. thank you so much. i think our site rocks with your theme.

  167. Monchou November 8th, 2007 at 7:14 am

    Hi! First of all I really appreciated your design as a great basic! But I just had a look around here and couldn’t find a solution:
    In IE 6 the entry div layer (the content of the post) is positioned far on the right and “collapses” with the 2nd sidebar. How can I code it in the CSS that it looks like the Firefox “version”?
    :c

  168. Upstart Blogger November 8th, 2007 at 7:53 am

    @Monchou: As far as I know, Modicus works in IE6, but I no longer have a way of testing it. Did you edit anything?

  169. Monchou November 9th, 2007 at 5:21 pm

    Hi, thanks for the reply!
    No, I didn’t edit anything but the titles in the CSS but I solved the problem by using the template of the single.php for the index.php :)

  170. mikel November 17th, 2007 at 3:41 am

    my “latest comment” widget has a little problem, and i dont know if this is common to someone else:

    the widget does not insert a ” ” (space) between a comment and the next one, so they appear together

  171. Upstart Blogger November 17th, 2007 at 12:46 pm

    @mikel: I just took a look at your site and it looks like you’ve got this figured out.

  172. David November 19th, 2007 at 11:22 am

    I’m just starting a new blog (not new to Wordpress however) and I love this theme, it actually was the impetus to startover. Anyway, I love the home.php page, however I’d like to have a link similar to the “About Face.” link for a post page with the 10 most recent posts. Is there a way to have the best of both worlds – index and home? Thanks!

  173. Upstart Blogger November 19th, 2007 at 11:42 am

    @David: I haven’t tried this, but you should be able to do what you want by creating page templates based on home.php and index.php, creating static pages, and then selecting them in WP Admin > Options > Reading > Front Page settings. Select the page based on home.php to display as your front page and the page based on index.php for your posts page. You’ll probably have to hand code the links to these pages.

    I think this will work. Anyone else know an easier way to do this?

  174. Justin November 19th, 2007 at 12:38 pm

    When using the 2 column theme, the side bar is incorrectly positioned over top of the body div. Effectively making it 1 column. Using WAMP5 and WP 2.31. Any ideas?

  175. Upstart Blogger November 19th, 2007 at 1:07 pm

    @Justin: Have you changed anything? If you haven’t changed anything, check that you’ve installed the theme properly. Only the ub_modicus2c folder should be uploaded to your themes directory.

  176. David November 19th, 2007 at 3:42 pm

    Thanks for your suggestion, I was able to (at least seemingly) successfully accomplish that.

  177. Tricia November 20th, 2007 at 5:24 am

    This layout is simple, clean and nice. I love it! Thanks for the creation of this theme!

  178. isk November 21st, 2007 at 3:14 pm

    Thanks, bodhi, i have used your mod.

  179. Sternz November 26th, 2007 at 2:54 pm

    I noticed on the demo for the 2-column version that it validates perfectly for XHTML, but when I installed the theme on a fresh install of WP 2.3.1 it doesn’t validate and has 13 errors. Is there something I am doing wrong, or is it possible to get the same files as the demo version to clear up the validation errors? Hope that isn’t asking too much. Thank for the help.

  180. Upstart Blogger November 26th, 2007 at 3:06 pm

    @Sternz: The demo uses the same files as the download. I just looked at your site and it’s not showing any errors. You may get errors if you haven’t edited the paths for the Apple-style search. See the Upstart Blogger WordPress Themes FAQ.

  181. Sternz November 27th, 2007 at 7:33 am

    @UpstartBlogger: Yeah, I checked the Fururosity theme I have about the applesearch to see what was going on. The download you have for the 2 column Modicus theme doesn’t have any of the needed files for the applesearch. I have everything from the Futurosity download so I am good, but others might not be as lucky to know what to look for or in. Hope I am being of help and not annoying.

  182. Upstart Blogger November 27th, 2007 at 8:38 am

    @Sternz: Ah, yes. I forgot. I took the applesearch out of the Modicus 2c because people were having problems with it. But are you still getting errors?

  183. Sternz November 27th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

    @UpstartBlogger: I added the files for the applesearch from another theme you made and was still getting errors. I also noticed that in the style.css that the id tag wasn’t in there either for it. I had to change back to an old version of my site for now, because I already have the portfolio section setup. I am working on fixing the Modicus theme for myself with WAMP so I can upload it all at once when I have it ready.

  184. Sternz November 27th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

    @UpstartBlogger: Also, forgot this part. Even before I before I added anything and left everything “stock” I got 13 errors. Maybe it is my server, but I wouldn’t know what it was. I almost think it is something to do with the new WordPress version, because I never got that many errors if at all before.

  185. Upstart Blogger November 27th, 2007 at 1:39 pm

    @Sternz: As far as I know, there shouldn’t be any problems with the theme. If you can post the errors you’re getting, I’ll have a look.

  186. Sternz November 27th, 2007 at 1:42 pm

    @UpstartBlogger: Before I say anything else, I want to thank you for the work you do. I am thinking that something is amiss with the Modicus 2 & 3 column theme. I checked the demo of the 3 column version in Firefox and IE(even though I hate it), and it seems that things are kinda wonky with the layout. The search box didn’t even show up in the 3 column demo using firefox on the main page and the Archives are out of line as well. Hopefully I am being of help and not an annoyance. I just know that a few months back the Modicus theme worked great, which leads me to believe it is Wordpress but I could be wrong. I can email you screen caps of the pages in question if you need just let me know, I think I still have your email.

  187. Upstart Blogger November 27th, 2007 at 1:59 pm

    Okay, I see what you’re talking about now. The errors are all caused by applesearch. As soon as I find the time, I’m going to remove it from the theme. It causes more problems than it’s worth.

  188. george November 29th, 2007 at 5:00 pm

    beautiful theme. i have one question. how can i make it where the post title is in a biggger font? is it in the css? this is the only thing that i want to change.

  189. Upstart Blogger November 29th, 2007 at 5:15 pm

    @george: Yes, all of the styles are in style.css.

  190. george November 29th, 2007 at 6:11 pm

    i looked. i can’t seem to find it.

    do you know what line of code it is?

    thanks for your help.

  191. Sternz November 30th, 2007 at 11:09 am

    @george: I think that the line in the CSS you are looking for is line 229. Don’t hold me to that, but I am pretty sure that is it.

  192. george November 30th, 2007 at 11:57 am

    @Sternz: I opened style.css in dreamweaver.

    on line 229, there is “}”

    closing the line for #wp-calendar

    do you know if the post title has a name like h1?

  193. george November 30th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

    I found this code on line 94 changed it for me
    .post li a {font-weight: bold;}

    but now it changes the size of the font for the post date and category. i wanted to keep those the same.

    is there a way to change the post title and the post.metadata font sizes seperately?

  194. Sternz November 30th, 2007 at 12:36 pm

    @george: Sorry about that. I have changed my css already so the lines are off, sorry for the confusion. I could be totally wrong on this but try editing something in these line…

    ul {padding-bottom: 1em;}

    ul.related li a{display: block;}
    ul.related li {display: block;}

    ul.archive li{display: block; padding: 0 0 1em;}

    ul.archive p {
    display: block; padding: 0;}

    ul.archive {margin: 0; padding:0;}

  195. Sternz November 30th, 2007 at 12:38 pm

    @george: You should probably start posting these question in the forum, and not on this page itself. There are more people that can help you there, plus the forum is for support questions. Good luck.

  196. Ethan December 2nd, 2007 at 6:51 pm

    Hi,
    I’m in Beth’s boat. I can’t get posts in the index to have hard line breaks. Is there an easy fix for this?

    My website is: http://www.misteriosos.org/

    Please let me know!

    e.

  197. Upstart Blogger December 2nd, 2007 at 6:56 pm

    See Beth’s comment on 27 Sep 07.

  198. Ethan December 3rd, 2007 at 6:53 pm

    Wow, thanks for that quick reply! I actually used Beth’s solution and it wasn’t working unless I edited it in the code. Then, I stopped using Opera and edited it in Safari, and it allowed new lines.

    **The only problem now is that I can’t make two new lines. As in the equivalent of two p tags. Is there any way to allow the theme for this?

    Thanks again for the great theme and your help!

  199. Upstart Blogger December 3rd, 2007 at 6:57 pm

    @Ethan: I’m not sure what you mean by “I can’t make two new lines.” I looked at your blog and you have multiple lines created by multiple p tags.

  200. Ethan December 3rd, 2007 at 7:02 pm

    Hey,
    Wow, quick response!

    I’m viewing it right now on Safari and even if I hit “enter” 5 times in the Wordpress editor, it only allows me one paragraph line break.

    Here’s what I see:

    http://www.misteriosos.org/space/Preview.jpg

    Thanks again!

  201. Upstart Blogger December 3rd, 2007 at 7:08 pm

    @Ethan: Oh, I get it. This has nothing to do with the template. The WordPress editor will create a new paragraph, no matter how many times you hit enter. If you want more than two lines, you’ll have to manually enter some line breaks:

    <br /><br /><br /><br /><br />

  202. Ethan December 3rd, 2007 at 7:19 pm

    Wow, thanks a lot, I really appreciate all your help! Everyone here at misteriosos says thanks!

  203. Marek Bennett December 4th, 2007 at 3:12 pm

    FYI — The wordpress template for Upstart-Modicus says “Weclome to…” on the front page.

    You might already know this.

    Otherwise, thanks for a cool template!

  204. Upstart Blogger December 4th, 2007 at 3:25 pm

    @Marek: Yes, that’s for the About text. If you want to remove it, just edit index.php.

  205. justin December 8th, 2007 at 1:03 am

    Love the 2 column template, installed the theme fine, but for some reason its previewing the whole page in one single row?? Not sure why.. I installed the theme correctly.. I’m viewing it on firefox and safari (mac) ..FYI – 3 column template works fine, is only the 2 column..

    thanks!! thoughts?

  206. Upstart Blogger December 8th, 2007 at 8:31 am

    @justin: Sorry. If you installed it properly and haven’t changed anything, I know of no reason why it shouldn’t display correctly.

  207. Brooke December 11th, 2007 at 12:31 pm

    Im having the same problem as justin. i had my site up and running fine with a different theme. im trying to switch to this one, and all columns are overlapping, they are all on the left. i have only the random quotes plugin activated, i know i installed the theme correctly. im also on a mac with firefox and safari. any ideas at all?

  208. Upstart Blogger December 11th, 2007 at 1:20 pm

    @Brooke: I’d have to see your site to troubleshoot this.

  209. Brooke December 11th, 2007 at 1:49 pm

    ok, heres a link http://www.bewmedia.com

  210. Upstart Blogger December 11th, 2007 at 2:00 pm

    @Brooke: I don’t see anything obviously wrong here and I’m not getting any errors. Check the theme’s Options tab in your WP Admin.

  211. Brooke December 11th, 2007 at 2:06 pm

    the themes options are all set to the default values. 800px 400px 250px left to right. i tried changing to right to left to see if that changed anything, and it didnt. i even deleted an image that was posted in one of the posts on the front page, that didnt help.

  212. Brooke December 11th, 2007 at 2:08 pm

    i fixed it. i deactivated the next gen gallery plugin, and everything looks right. thats too bad, i need that plugin.

  213. Upstart Blogger December 11th, 2007 at 2:09 pm

    Sorry you can’t use the plugin, but I’m glad it wasn’t a problem with the theme. Thanks for letting us know what the problem was!

  214. Brooke December 12th, 2007 at 6:57 pm

    just a quick follow up for anyone else using next gen gallery with this theme, i updated to the newest version of the gallery, and they are working fine together :)

  215. Ethan December 19th, 2007 at 6:16 am

    Hey, thanks again for all your quick help!

    A quick question, is there a way to change the font size for Titles of posts? I know it uses the li tag in the CSS, is there a way to specifically enlarage the title font size without mucking up the rest of the layout?

    Thanks again!

  216. Ethan December 19th, 2007 at 6:50 am

    Ah, Nevermind, figured it out! Just created a new class for title links! Now I wonder how I could increase spacing between the post title and the rest of the content…

    Thanks again, sorry to waste your time!

  217. Upstart Blogger December 19th, 2007 at 12:40 pm

    Glad you figured it out Ethan. That pillow fight sounds like it was fun.

  218. Joshua Mostafa December 20th, 2007 at 1:17 am

    Thanks! Excellent themes.

  219. Monchou December 23rd, 2007 at 6:48 pm

    Hi! It’s me again!
    I really gotta say at first: I really enjoy using your theme, it was a really comfortable entry into the wordpress-world for me :D

    Do you have an idea how I can highlight my author’s comments? I tried out some tutorials on the web, but your comments.php seems to be pretty different from others.
    I would be thankful for a reply!

  220. Paul December 26th, 2007 at 8:48 am

    Merry Christmas Upstart Blogger. Modicus is a great theme and I’m using for a new website I’m currently setting up. I have come across a problem though with the WP-Lightbox2 plugin and IE7. Depending on where the thumb image is on a page when it is clicked, that determines the point where the screen darkens. For example, if the the thumb is in the middle of the browser window it will only darken from the top of window to halfway down. In Firefox 2 and the new Firefox beta 3 it is OK. I haven’t yet tried it with Opera. You can see the problem by clicking on the thumbs on the blog.

    I visited a couple of other WP sites that have Lightbox2 installed and they all worked fine under IE7. Do you know of any problems with the IE7, Modicus and Lightbox?

    Cheers
    Paul

  221. Paul December 26th, 2007 at 8:49 am

    Ooops, should have added the website: http://www.web2insight.com

  222. Paul December 26th, 2007 at 9:04 am

    Sorry to bug you again UB but I just found this one. I’m wondering if it is something to do with WP settings on the admin side. This is the error I get when I do a search. The search routine does actually find an article, and correctly display it, but it is followed by this error message.

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function: the_excerpt_reloaded() in /srv/www/vhosts/web2insight.com/httpdocs/WordPress/wp-content/themes/upstart-blogger-modicus-01/search.php on line 13

  223. Paul December 26th, 2007 at 9:14 am

    Update to the Search problem. If I enter a search word that I know appears in more than one post, the search only returns one post.

  224. Paul December 26th, 2007 at 5:19 pm

    Update. Display problem resolved. I changed from Lightbox to Thickbox in the Options menu and that has solved the problem with the NextGEN gallery images, but there is still an issue with Lightbox. I have other standalone images that use the lightbox call and IE7 is still rendering these falsely.

  225. Paul December 27th, 2007 at 5:41 pm

    Final update on the Lightbox2 issue. Resolved. Just remove Lightbox and use Thickbox instead. I don’t know why this works…, but it does. There is a conflict between Modicus, IE7 and Lightbox somewhere, but I don’t have the wherewithal to find it.

  226. jhk December 28th, 2007 at 7:43 pm

    Great theme. I just installed it on my site.

    I’m actually having the same problem as Paul reported on 12/26 regarding his search results. I get the same error and also get only one result for terms that I know are in multiple posts. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  227. Monchou January 2nd, 2008 at 4:09 pm

    Hey, it’s me again :(
    I really do not want to bother,
    but how do I get the content and the sidebar fixed?
    I actually added a background so it would be neccessary; whenever i change the size of my browser the content + sidebar moves away .__.

  228. Monchou January 2nd, 2008 at 7:09 pm

    Ok, I could solve this by editing the #wrapper and not the content or others :)
    Cheers

  229. Graham Smith January 6th, 2008 at 12:53 am

    Hi
    I know you hear it a 1000 times, but it is a GREAT looking theme, so classy.

    I have one question relating to the way PAGES are displayed in the side menu. I am getting way too many to list and need to set up nested pages.

    So for example ‘Services’ as the main Pages, with subsequent pages with Services as the parent. Now i know this is easy to set-up, but the sub pages don’t display in a hierarchical menu, I was under the impression the sub pages should show up as asub page of Services.

    I would be greatful if you could let me know if this is possible? Because at the moment, when I do this, the sub pages just dispear from view and you get taken to the Service Page.

    I have some WP plugin’s that create nested menus, breadcrumbs etc, but they don’t work as they should.

    Many thanks,

  230. Graham Smith January 6th, 2008 at 5:06 pm

    Hello again,
    I was just looking at my previous post and thought it may not have made sense.

    Simply, when I create 2 pages that are a sub page of a parent page, the sub pages do not indent. Therefore they look like a regular page and not a sub page. Also, a blank gap/line appears below each bottom sub page.

    Really just wondered if this was intentional or if there is a way to ensure sub pages are ‘visibly’ part of a structure, or even better, a collapsible format. And if there is anyway to remove this blank line.

    Hope that makes sense.

    Many thanks
    Graham

    Hi Robert,

    Thanks for creating this great theme! I’m having a bit of trouble getting flickr rss to load in the side bar? Do you know if it is compatible with Modicus?

    I’ve dropped it into the Sidebar 1 in the Widgets page, and gave it a title. The title shows up but the images do not load. I’ve configured the Flickr plugin correctly and it was working on a different theme previously. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Cheers!

  232. Upstart Blogger January 13th, 2008 at 10:56 pm

    SH – I’m glad you like the theme but this isn’t Robert. Have a look at the about page and you’ll see what I mean.

    Hi Ashley,

    I run The Stonewailer, a site for indie musicians, and I’d like to know if there is any way that I can change the default black hyperlink setting in the far right sidebar from #444 (black, I think) to Google’s blue #0000FF.

    I have a Google link ad at the very top of that column, but I can’t seem to get the links to appear as anything but black.

    Best,
    Josh

    hello.
    I am using the modicus template and I think it is perfect. There is just ONE more thing I want to change. The query posts that show up under the title of the page, in the second sidebar, I want to eliminate it.
    Thank you,
    Rob

    Hey!

    Just wanted to say “thank you!” for the 2c version of modicus. I use a slightly modified version and I’m totally in love with this newly discovered minimalism! ;-)

    best regards,

    I must say I really like the layout of your theme!
    Decided to give it a try, and see how it could work out – I just uploaded it to night so I havent added a copyright footer yet. – I have a requets/question though, Is there a way to get the page to show images, on the front page and not only when you read intpo the single posts?

    best regards
    Alexander

  240. Daniel Condurachi April 5th, 2008 at 9:09 am

    Thank your for creating this very good theme. I am using it on my new blog – Computer Science PhD WebBlog. I really like it.

    I have a question: How can I make the links from the blogroll be on a separate line, when I add this widget on the 1st column? When I put the blogroll on the 2nd column it looks ok, but not on the 1st. Thank you!

  241. Daniel Condurachi April 5th, 2008 at 11:18 am

    Regarding the ul, ol and li problem here is what worked for me

    .post ol {list-style-type:decimal;}
    .post ul {list-style-type:square;}
    .post li {display:list-item; margin: 0 0 0 14px;}

    added in style.css

  242. patricia April 6th, 2008 at 5:59 am

    im really digging this theme. although i have a question, is it possible that instead of having to click on the title of the entry to expose the entire entry and allow comments, where do i change it so that i can just post the entire entry on the first page?

  243. patricia April 6th, 2008 at 7:05 am

    I was the one who asked earlier about taking the excerpt out, but I just figured it out. I had to do it because or else I would never find the answer…

    Although, one thing that is bothering me is how on the main page, the top of the entry isn’t aligned with the top of the sidebars? When I still had the excerpt and I clicked on the title to show the full entry, the page with the full entry on it had the entry box aligned with the top of the sidebars. Any ideas? :/

  244. Alex April 10th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

    How can I change the formatting of the post title on the front page? Currently, it’s just bold, and the same size of the post text. But I’d like to increase the font size. Just can’t find the place to do it in the style sheet.

    Cheers!

  245. Peter April 14th, 2008 at 4:23 am

    Great theme. Loves it.

    I’ve got the same request as “APM” on 04 Aug 07. I’d really love to be able to use both the splash page AND the main index page – but (as you said) there isn’t really a simple way of doing it as far as I can work out.

    Please consider this for future updates! For chronologically organised blogs, it’s important to have that main index page, but it’s such a shame to waste that awesome splash!

  246. sknob April 17th, 2008 at 6:04 am

    Bonjour. Love your design. Am localizing it into French for a blog I plan to launch.

    It has one major ergonomic flaw in my view (because I’m a usability nut).
    - The links are not easily distinguished from the text
    - There are at least 3 different link styles (post title / 2 styles in the new posts block in sidebar2 / third style in sidebar1).

    I really want to use the design, but I can’t leave it as is.

    So after some experimenting, I’ve settled on a simple solution (which isn’t great but is a lesser evil in my deranged opinion) : I underlined all the links using the following code on the “a” (kept your hover settings) :

    border-bottom: thin solid #ccc;
    padding-bottom: 1px;

    I thought I’d let you know about my qualms since you’re the designer, and I’m sure you can come up with a better solution…

    Thanks again.

    Thank you for the great theme! I recently re-engineered my sight (basically-started from scratch) using your theme and I love it. It is coming along nicely and it shows well in firefox. Out of curiousity, I loaded it in IE7 and it looks terrible. Is there anything I can do to fix it? I apologize if you already answered this but there are many comments and replies and I haven’t read through them all yet.

    Thanks again!

    Hello,
    Great theme! I am using it on this new recipes blog and it looks amazing. I am new to wordpress and it took some time to figure everything out. Thanks for making it available. I was just wondering is there any way to edit or even remove the tag cloud from the side bar?

    And one more noob question…

    How do I change the M picture on the top?

    Thank you for the theme!

I tried using the fix on the Wordpress Codex site without luck. Is there anything I can do? I would really appreciate it!

    hello
    I try to use this smart design theme. A few pb :
    (WP 2.3)
    Double widgets : widgets turn on and the embeded code in the sidebar.php
    tag cloud and configurable tag cloud compete !
    double comments
    doubles latest posts.
    I can of course, desactivate the widget (comment, post and CTc) but I find it better to use widget because of the personnalisation. Editing the sidebar and delete just zabout coment, tag cloud and latest post” and the sidebar.php went wrong after savint and upload….shame on me , I guess ?

    In the post :
    the previous posts have lost their links, the bold and specified colours…..
    the form is not respected (§ or “puces”") not working. That really a pity :((

    Editing the style : i have changed the colour of the font, saved, upload the php and nothing happened, still black. :(((

    Any idea about the widgets ?

    Merry christmas and happy new year :*

  258. MortyTheReaper December 26th, 2008 at 2:59 pm

    Just a quick come back to say a few good news
    I succeeded to
    * fix the sidebar template, if any change just take your time and make it step-by-step
    * use the excerpt loaded
    * plugins : to avoid competition desactivate some in your dashborad WP or erase some lines in the sidebar

    Now, i feel good to personalize more the css style sheet.

    Again, thanks to you for this support which give the force to dive inside the code ;)
    ps : comments are very useful for newbies

  259. Michka January 13th, 2009 at 1:37 am

    Hi, I love this theme but having trouble with it. Maybe because I am using WP version 2.7?

    I want a 2 column version that looks somewhat like this: http://www.houseandfig.com

    (I want my sidebar on the left, posts on the right.)

    PROBLEM: my posts are showing up on top of my sidebar.

    Can anyone suggest how I can fix this?

    Thanks!

  260. Michka January 13th, 2009 at 7:40 am

    I figured it out, no need to respond!

  261. Michka January 14th, 2009 at 6:26 am

    Hi there, I’ve tweaked your theme to a point where I’m really happy with it! LOVE the theme and all the white space. I am using the static home page option, looks great!

    HOWEVER: I cannot figure out how to put a link into the actual blog when using your home page option. I’ve got links to my individual PAGES (eg About page) but what do I need to do to set it up so they can see my daily POSTS?

    If you can let me know that would be wonderful. Thanks a million!!!

  262. Michka January 14th, 2009 at 6:32 am

    Sorry not sure I was clear in the above post. On my home page I want a link that takes you to into the blog. (I’m not showing any posts on the home page)

    Right now I can only see the posts when I look at one of my PAGES – my posts show up on the sidebar under the widget “Recent Posts” but you have to click on them individually.

    HOpe that makes sense , and that you know how to fix this!

  263. kate January 26th, 2009 at 7:31 am

    Hi there – you’ve made a really wonderful template. I’m trying to use it on my site! I was trying to make the post title size larger, but now the spacing is all a little off, and the post info is posting without a line break after the text and I’m not sure why..

    Thank you!

  264. t1 February 12th, 2009 at 10:55 am

    I really like the theme and I am having a few issues and I would like to know if you can help… here’s the issue I’m having.

    This is a screenshot of the problem.. : http://i40.tinypic.com/2whi7pw.jpg

    None of my sidebar widgets show up and thats pretty much the only problem. HELP!

  265. adam March 9th, 2009 at 2:00 am

    Really like the theme, thanks! Having problems though. For some reason the comment box is not showing up under the posts? Am I doing something wrong or have I forgotten something…?

  266. transformers movie May 22nd, 2009 at 5:53 pm

    theSupermarket, the pink text is in the .entry p:first-child selector. Just open up style.css and change it to whatever you want, or delete that selector and the first paragraph will match the rest of the post.

    Hi
    I love this theme – but im having a bit of trouble getting it going on my site.
    All the columns are stacking ontop of eachother. I’m somewhat familiar with wordpress anatomy but I cant figure out where to start puzzling this out?

    thanx

  268. Natalia September 30th, 2009 at 11:09 pm

    I just wanted to say thanks! This has been the easiest theme for me to edit and I really appreciate it. All the others I have come across have given me headaches, especially since I barely know what i’m doing.
