The last week or so has been difficult for me, personally and professionally. Health issues destroyed the back end of last week and, despite a few signs that everything is ok, continue to linger. Playing, blogging and anything creative has, as a direct result, suffered a direct hit. Perhaps I should have listened to the Doctor when he told me to take it easy for a week or two.

Maybe my recent back twinges were some kind of early warning. I’ll never know.

Trouble is, taking it easy for a week or two just isn’t the sort of thing I can do without feeling the need to jump up and do something.

And, given the amount of email flak I have received in the last few days, I’m really starting to wish I had put my head down last Friday, spent some quality time with my family to rest and recuperate, and not put my head back above the blogging parapet until sometime next week.

The email flak isn’t particularly personal, neither is it particularly vicious, but it has still managed to annoy me enough to write about it, albeit briefly. I’ll give you an example.

Dude, quit whining about your stomach and start telling us how to make money.

Succinct, don’t you think? And quite direct, thought I think this may have more to do with the writers attention span than anything else.

That email wasn’t alone. More followed and many proceeded it, all deciding to take a similar swipe at what their writers thought was some sort of dereliction of duty on my part. But, thankfully, it enabled me to sit back, smile, and understand a few things. For instance, it occurred to me that as the traffic grows to this site, and it grows without fail every month, my audience becomes more and more diverse.

And I can’t please everyone.

There are some people who come here hoping to find similar content to that found on any of a number of pro blogging rags. You know the sort of thing, mastermind blogging master-classes to make you millions in minutes with minimal work. Semi-automated tripe that keeps the gullible happy and the con-men fat.

But that is not, has never been, and never will be on the menu here.

And that means that sometimes, especially it would seem when a plague descends upon my house, that not everyone is happy.

I can’t wait to see what my greatest critic thinks of tomorrow’s post when I explain why I think that Twitter will have been rendered useless from within before the end of the year. It might be time to make some room in my inbox.

Well coming from someone who has had a lot of health issues in the last few years and was sick this last week and is trying to get my head back above water, I agree. You can’t even please some of the people some of the time, so why try. :D Take care of yourself first and all the rest will fall in place.

If some leave cuz you spoke about a few personal things, then so be it. Please continue to have a life and write about it. It makes you seem human and it’s the reason I read blogs. I could go take a class and get a lot of the same information, but it’s a lot more fun to get it from people who are living it and who are more than just the information.

You need your health mate and people should respect that. Here in Japan they have a sickness call “Stomach cold” that can be really light or really aggressive and take you for a couple of days to the hospital but all depends of how you take care of yourself. I think your health issue has more priority for your own and your family than work.

It’s funny how readers of blogs become so possessive of what you write for them (for free).

I am of the mindset that the blog is mine and I write what I want, I write it for my readers, but if they don;t like it they can vote with their e-feet and unsubscribe. When you bow down to Troll and write for them instead of yourself it is a slippy slope.

While I am on the subject of Trolling – you suck how dare you even suggest twitter is not the greatest thing ever :)

I don’t comment much here but I do visit on a regular basis. One of the reasons I like Upstart Blogger is the personal feel it has, it’s much more enjoyable to read compared to the automated tripe that you find on a lot of other “blogging” sites.

I for one appreciate that you told us what has been going on at Upstart Blogger towers. In fact I would even go as far to say that I enjoy the more personal posts much better than the normal blogging ones.

So keep your chin up mate, the internet is full of idiots.

    It’s alright now,
    I learned my lesson well.
You see you can’t please everyone, but ya
    Go to please yourself.

Hope you’re feeling better! It’s good to hear traffic is steadily growing still which reminds me I haven’t seen a monthly income report recently. Those were powerful and persuasive for my wife as I convinced her blogging would be a legit source of income! She’s already convinced now, but I’d still be interested in at least a quarterly report or trends or something. Not that its really any of our business, but if you’re willing…
